Summary

This boxed set contains the first 3 books in the CLEOPATRA FOX MYSTERIES series:

Murder at the Mayfair Hotel

Murder at the Piccadilly Playhouse

Murder in the Drawing Room

Description of Book 1: Murder at the Mayfair Hotel

It was the most fashionable place to stay in London, until murder made a reservation. Solve the puzzle in this new mystery from USA Today bestselling author of the Glass and Steele series.

December 1899. After the death of her beloved grandmother, Cleopatra Fox moves into the luxury hotel owned by her estranged uncle in the hopes of putting hardship and loneliness behind her. But the poisoning of a guest on Christmas eve throws her new life, and the hotel, into chaos.

Cleo quickly realizes no one can be trusted, not Scotland Yard and especially not the hotel’s charming assistant manager. With the New Year’s Eve ball approaching fast and the hotel’s reputation hanging by a thread, Cleo must find the killer before the ball, and the hotel itself, are ruined. But catching a murderer proves just as difficult as navigating the hotel’s hierarchy and the peculiarities of her family.

Can Cleo find the killer before the new century begins? Or will someone get away with murder?

Good detective stories with a great cast

I really enjoyed these 3 stories. The protagonist is a plucky young woman who has a stormy friendship with a handsome young man. Well performed with clearly distinct voices for the various characters. I look forward to my next read.

Really enjoyable!

Light hearted and enjoyable - all three books were gripping and I liked the story arcs with all the varied main characters and the possible romances between some. Well narrated too. Looking forward to book four….

Girl overcomes in the early 1900s

I’m a sucker for a girl overcoming prejudices. Even if those are oddly unreal - family owns Mayfair hotel in London albeit distant. Nicely set in 1900s which brings the male/female unbalance and hints at suffragette movement. It’s an easy read.

What a refreshing set of stories

These stories were wonderful to listen to, easy to follow and very well read. It was sometimes easy to forget the time period as the language was far more modern than the time it was set in. But that did not bother me at all. It only made it easier to follow and the mysteries had me wondering who did it right up to the end of each story. I am definitely getting the next book!

An entertaining historical cozy crime stories

Some nice historical detail, generally light and entertaining. Narrator quite good, it was always clear which character was speaking, but she pronounced 'foyer' differently to how I expected her to (as foir rather than foy-yay) . This word comes up a lot, with the stories being set in a hotel, and one in a theatre, and it grated every time. A minor thing though, overall.
