About this listen

From a New York Times - bestselling journalist: The story of the murder of a California attorney at the hands of the lethally cunning wife he never doubted.

A wealthy and well-connected legal ace and the proud owner of a champion show horse, Larry McNabney had every reason to love his life. But when he disappeared in September 2001, his wife, Elisa, claimed he joined a cult.

When Larry's body was found in a shallow grave three months later, Elisa was already gone. In a red convertible Jaguar, her brown hair dyed blond, Mrs. McNabney was speeding toward a new life in Florida - and a brand new identity.

Who was Elisa McNabney? Beautiful, seductive, and ruthless, she had thirty-eight aliases and a rap sheet a mile long. Carlton Smith, coauthor of the true crime classic The Search for the Green River Killer, reveals one shocking surprise after another in this harrowing tale of broken vows and deadly betrayal.

Narrated well, kept interested by the various twists and turns. Good story.
think it is a true story also from over the pond

Worth a listen.

Something went wrong. Please try again in a few minutes.

Too much irrelevant filler. I didn't need to know the history of Reno amongst other waffle.

Too much irrelevant filler

Full of very unsympathetic characters especially the victim and main perpetrator… I don’t think i would have wanted to spend time with either.
Pleased to move on to another book.

Another story of stupidity and greed

Something went wrong. Please try again in a few minutes.

A story with twists and turns, sad on how many lives have been effected by a persons actions.

Unbelievable but true

I almost gave up. The transcripts of the interrogations had me crawling up the walls. The story is interesting but doesn't warrant a book.

Interesting but way too long

Not the best narrator, extremely monotone, but fine. The story itself is not the most interesting. Lots of money fraud talk. A fine book, but a fairly boring listen for 80% of it.

Bit boring but not the worst.

Something went wrong. Please try again in a few minutes.

The story was good. Lots of twists. Narrative was boring. Too much detail in chapters.

Reasonable story

Really sad, people just using, abusing each other, drugs, drink, lies, and even sadder to think it really happened. People often take beauty & looks before intelligence, truth & loyalty. Everywhere, every day. Made me feel for them all especially Larry. By the way, I enjoyed the history parts.

Such a very sad story

Something went wrong. Please try again in a few minutes.

Goes on and on about some lawyers.. boring … doesn’t get to the point .. probably does but I’m too bored to find out. Not for anyone who enjoys true crime.

Boring and long winded

Something went wrong. Please try again in a few minutes.

Despite the valiant attempts of the narrator, this book is boring and mind-numbing. Not recommended.

Do yourself a favour and skip to the last chapter.
