About this listen
You will love this emotional and gripping listen from Sunday Times best-selling author Fern Britton.
When the only place you want to be is home....
When Ella's beloved grandmother dies, she comes back to the beautiful Cornish coast to heal her heart. There she finds her home again and discovers a new life and new love...but she also opens a treasure trove of secrets.
Sennen left Cornwall a young single mum but unable to cope. She left her children, her family and part of her. She's spent the years hiding from her past, hiding from herself.
Now it's time to come back. To Cornwall. To face her mistakes. To pray for forgiveness. To hope for a future with her daughter.
Pendruggan: a Cornish village with secrets at its heart.

But oh my! The narration is appallingly bad. So much so that on a number of occasions I have been tempted to give up on it. I became fond of the characters as narrated in The Postcard but can't bear them now. Kit has suddenly become a faux Cornish country bumpkin when the due diligence of some background research would have lead the narrator to see that he did not originate from Cornwall and had, in fact, only recently arrived. Regional accents should be left well alone unless the narrator can do them well and this one can't. At all.
Ella is whiny and pathetic and Henry...ugh. In fact, each and every character has been given a whining tone that irritates and alienates the listener.
I wish that the same narrator had been used for this book as for The Postcard if only so that continuity could be maintained.
Ghastly narration.
