Deep in the African rain forest, near the legendary ruins of the Lost City of Zinj, an expedition of eight American geologists are mysteriously and brutally killed in a matter of minutes.

In San Francisco, primatologist Peter Elliot works with Amy, a gorilla with an extraordinary vocabulary of 620 "signs," the most ever learned by a primate, and she likes to finger paint. But recently her behavior has been erratic and her drawings match, with stunning accuracy, the brittle pages of a Portuguese print dating back to 1642…a drawing of an ancient lost city. A new expedition - along with Amy - is sent into the Congo, where they enter a secret world, and the only way out may be through a horrifying death.....

Congo was adapted to the screen and directed by Frank Marshall.

- Really takes a while to get used to the male-simulated voice from the author, it sounds like a joke every time and really I had no clue what male character is talking
- Story is very interesting but disappointing end
- good amount of technical details while not versing into a full engineering manual

Would recommend if you can’t wait to hear another Chrichton story, while not being his best

A very good novel excellently read by Julia Whelan. Whilst this is certainly not among Crichton's best novel it is by no means the worst, and a must for Crichton's fans.

I thoroughly enjoyed and received this one. As is so often the case it outshone the film, good though that was. Fascinating thriller about gorillas in the Congo. A group of scientists travel to Central Africa on the trail of a previous expedition which went badly wrong. This team is a lot more savvy and take along a talking gorilla with them. They are primarily looking for a long lost city, Zinj which is guarded by trained killer primates who put up a determined fight as they have been bred to do. Thrilling from start to end. I was initially dubious about the narrator but her voice grew on me quickly. I thoroughly recommend this book having enjoyed it a lot.

After listening to (and loving) Jurassic Park, I decided to try another popular Michael Crichton book, Congo.

The reader did a fantastic job. She was easy to understand and did an amazing job providing each character with their own individual voice and personality.

The story, well, as a stand alone story it was acceptable. In comparison to Jurassic Park it was pretty poor.
The story has an interesting and exciting plot, however, the story is very VERY linear. With Jurassic Park, it was never quite certain where the story was heading or what would happen next. With Congo, it was a journey through a jungle and it WAS exactly that.
Micheal does an amazing job intertwining lots of scientific and technological facts within the story (just like Jurassic Park), It may be fair to say that roughly 1/3 - 1/2 of the book is narrative facts and the rest plot. It is laid out in a "fact, plot, fact, plot, fact, plot..." configuration.
I still enjoyed the book, however, I don't see this as a book I would listen to more than once.

Good story. Somewhat predictable however this is my first foray into Michael Crichton and there was enough here to make me jump into another.

Good performance but seemed like the 'Ross said' were dubbed after the fact. Sometimes off putting.
