At last!

I read this book way back - in the 70s I think. I'd read "This Immortal" and "Lord of Light". At the time being a little more naive I was impressed with Zelasny's use of different pantheons. Then in the early 80s I stopped reading Science Fiction, somewhat put off by much of the literature being a little cliched. In recent years, things have got better (if you look hard). I looked for this book for years. I eventually found it on the web.... and now, a glorious audiobook version.

The book is better in some respects. Zelasny's use of space and poetry is very well done. The audiobook lacks the tempo of the book but it is a treat to hear.

I imagine some might find the book's treatment of women a little "old fashioned" (i.e. not exactly what you'd hope for) but the women are strong and do what they want to do (when they can).

The various threads of the story are fascinating. Makes me (again) want to research the Egyptian gods.

Many years ago I watched Gods of Egypt, hoping that it would have something of the magic of Creatures of Light and Darkness. No. Nothing like. In this book, Zelasny delivers a really fascinating world populated by intriguing characters.

Something went wrong. Please try again in a few minutes.
