About this listen

Ash’s life is anything but normal these days.

Having unlocked his Dantian, he’s grown in power. Grown to the point where he has others who depend on him for that power.

In this world of martial arts, only the strong and the ruthless survive.

Everyone else is merely a stepping stone on their path of Cultivation, or an obstacle to be overcome.

Or knock down.

A world where the strong rule, and the weak die.

Utilizing the Hall, the voice in his head that calls itself Locke, and all the powers available to him, Ash has begun his own journey of Cultivation.

Except that as a Fated One, his journey is a narrow and winding path between two cosmic forces. Each one vying for dominance.

And that has nothing to do with what Locke has planned for him.

This is his second step in his life as a Cultivator. Overcoming his first tribulation, and solidifying his Dantian.

This is a VeilVerse novel.

Warning and minor spoiler: This novel contains graphic violence, undefined relationships/a full harem, unconventional opinions/beliefs, and a hero who is tactful as a dog at a cat show. Listen at your own risk.

Great work from Andrea

I’m really enjoying this foray into xianxia from William D Arand. I’m a little worried that book 3 isn’t on the writing calendar because I’m looking forward to it, still happy to have this on audio and Andrea is amazing as usual.

so much potential

I don't know if the following in the series will be released on audible but I hope so because the potential of the series needs to be fulfilled.

Getting worse

MC is even more whinny and goes to any lengths to not enjoy women who loves him. Its just stupid. You are put in an alternative violent world and you can die anytime and you won't enjoy yourself. Yeah, not plausible.

Almost no cultivation. Its just a stream of random events. There is no time for downtime, character development or real integrations between characters. Not the best.

Cultivation Free

More about Harem management than Cultivation with lazy villains. The first book was 4 stars, this is about 2 only because of the narrator. This is the last book I'll purchase from this author.

I just can't deal with the harem trash.

Though an author is of course untitled to their creative freedom and it's far easier to say or criticize than to do.

I have to say the harem bullshit just kept pulling me out of the story. It grows from a frankly already over used trope, into an honestly aggravating farce, that I have little time for. Our primary cast of characters, hero's and villains suffer as a consequence and don't particularly develop as people. Yes there's lots of fights and the accumulation of power, but little true character growth.

Unfortunately, this the inevitable consequences of the ever growing cast of mostly female characters. Adding to this, often in the previous book, characters could come across as excessive, but still interesting. Unfortunately in this iteration they for most part, devolve into pure caricatures. Personally I find this disappointing, as many of the characters the author has created were interesting and had great potential, but I fear that much of it has been wasted in this entry.

Good try, but for the love of god, please level out our cast just a little bit and don't make everything about rather dull love island drama + cultivation.
