Summary
Brought to you by Penguin.
When it comes to understanding the connection between our mental and physical health, we should be looking at the exceptions, not the rules.
Dr Jeff Rediger, a world-leading Harvard psychiatrist, has spent the last fifteen years studying thousands of individuals from around the world, examining the stories behind extraordinary cases of recovery from terminal illness.
Observing the common denominators of people who have beaten the odds, Dr Rediger reveals the immense power of our immune system and unlocks the secrets of the mind-body connection. In Cured, he explains the vital role that nutrition plays in boosting our immunity and fighting off disease, and he also outlines how stress, trauma and identity affect our physical health.
In analysing the remarkable science of recovery, Dr Rediger reveals the power of our mind to heal our body and shows us the keys to good health.

Essential reading - for the sick and the healthy
I read this book, so excuse the 5star on the performance. This book and it’s contents should be taught at school. In the last few years I have recommended it to countless people. It is essential reading if you have a human body. It’s one of the few books stand out over a life time of reading.

I listened to this whole book twice. it's so full of information I couldn't take it all in first time around. His 17 years of research has resulted in some really important conclusions for anybody wanting to stay disease free, and for anybody with a disease who wants to live.

Fascinating and illuminating
This book is a must listen for anyone who is interested in the mind body connection and how, when we take a closer look into the 4 pillars (immune system, nutrition, stress response and identity) and find a way to optimise or heal these, we give ourselves a better chance to 'spontaneously recover' from chronic illnesses or incurable ones.
No one know for sure how people heal from illnesses that no one healed from before, but there are a lot that can be done to encourage that journey, and this book is filled with stories and examples, interviews and research into individuals that somehow managed to do the unbelievable - to heal.
The book explains about various research and findings that contribute to the understanding that there is a strong connection between mind and body, and is a huge inspiration to anyone interested in this area.
