About this listen

A kidnapped girl. A ruthless criminal who preys on the innocent. Two killers who will stop at nothing to bring him down.

Former assassin Leine Basso was supposed to be in sunny LA, watching the first class of operatives graduate from the new anti-trafficking academy. Instead, she’s in North Dakota in the middle of a brutal winter, helping ex-poacher Derek van der Haar track down and eliminate a deadly group of criminals hell-bent on providing young girls to the highest bidder.

The closer Leine and Derek get to the organization, the more dangerous the mission becomes. Soon, it’s evident that the traffickers are playing for keeps - and don’t care who they kill.

In a story ripped from the headlines, Dakota Burn reveals the dark underbelly of the Bakken oil fields, where human life is a commodity and outlaws still rule.

If you enjoy books by Mark Dawson, Barry Eisler, and Mark Greaney, you’ll love D.V. Berkom. Get this gritty, action-packed thriller today!

Wow!! I read this book when it first came out and loved it then. Guess what I still love it! Nobody can write a story that sucks in or takes you on a roller coaster ride quite like D.V. can. This is another excellent book by a great author, I always look forward to new releases by this author and this book was everything I would expect lots of action.....and a great listen, even though I read the book and knew what was coming. It was great catching up with Derek, the ex poacher who we met in a previous book but don't worry you don't need to have read or listened to the others books as this is a great standalone but even better as part of the series. I like Leine as a character as she is she tough and yet we also see a softer side to her were children are concerned but if you are a bad guy watch out. She is definitely the character I would want to recuse me if I was kidnapped.
Leine gets a phone call from an old friend asking for help. Derek has stumbled on a young trafficked girl that needs her expertise and he thinks there could be more but her pimp is not talking and he needs Leine's special touch. Dropping everything Leine rushes to the middle of nowhere freezing cold North Dakota, where things are a lot worse than one kidnapped girl. With many more lives on the line Leine must call in reinforcements and gets help from new C.H.E.N recruit Jin, a young teenage runaway, a stripper and even the mob. It's a race against time, cold weather and even guns for Leine and Derek to save the day.
I like the narrator she has a special way of really bringing the story to life and I am glad that she is the authors narrator of choice as I couldn't imagine anybody else voicing Leine or even Derek's South African accent.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review..
