Summary

Everything to lose.

Tyler’s worked hard to kick the dust of the Chicago suburbs off his heels and move on with his life as Hollywood’s newest up-and-comer, burying his demons and hiding his scars from the world. Just as everything seems to be going his way, a scandal from his past threatens everything he’s worked for. Now, he’s stuck back home, where his family of lawyers can maybe help sink the scandal and find out who’s behind it.

Afraid to love.

Josh doesn’t know what to think when his ex’s little brother falls into his arms, other than that Tyler is trouble with a capital T. But when Tyler’s publicist suggests that an adoring fake boyfriend might be just the ticket to saving Tyler’s acting career, Josh doesn’t mind playing along. It’s not like he has anything else going on, and faking a relationship with someone you’ve known your entire life can’t possibly be that difficult.

A second chance for two damaged hearts.

Now, they’re stuck together for the foreseeable future, and neither can deny their mounting attraction. Why should they? They’re supposed to be in love, at least out in public. But in private, when no one is watching, Tyler and Josh grow closer in a way that has nothing to do with their agreed upon arrangement. What do they do when make-believe becomes real, and how can two men with such different lives have a shared future?

Damage Control is a steamy, stand-alone gay romance with no cliffhanger and an HEA.

Incredible

First things first this is an epic audiobook, Michael Ferraiuolo does a wonderful job with the narration. There are a lot of characters to contend with and he gave them all a unique voice, I was never confused about who was talking.

This story has everything, scandal, fake relationship, ex’s brother, best friend’s brother, family drama and a whole lot of hotness. There’s also a lot of serious issues dealt with, and although this book can be light hearted at times these issues are definitely more serious and the tone changed to reflect that. Michael’s narration was absolutely spot on going back and forth, especially for Tyler.

Josh and Tyler was fabulous as a couple, I loved how they found each other when they weren’t even looking and found in each other everything they ever wanted.

There’s definitely a lot going on in this story but dive in you won’t be disappointed.

Good...

This was a good story, and the narration was excellent. The reason I didn't rate it five stars is that there was just too much smut. Smut scenes always take me out of the story. One or two are fine, but there was quite a few in this, and the story would probably be quite a bit shorter without them. I like longer stories, I just wish it was more focused on plot and less on smut.

Much too long and honestly exhausting...

***Audio Review ***

I'm throwing in the towel at 56%. I have nothing at all against Michael Ferraiuolo as a narrator [in fact he's narrated some of my fave audios], but even he must be getting fed up of announcing that he's wherever he is at whatever time and date it is before every single chapter...it's exhausting!! 🤯...at least in the book you can ignore that part in every chapter. I said in my book review that the story was waay too long, and there's no better example of that fact than in this audio production. It's not Michael's fault, it's the story. Sorry Michael.

***Book Review ***

I picked this up after much touting on Facebook...an absolute whopper of a story. Much too long [but no skimming on my part], and I'm sure a decent editor would have chopped at least a couple of hundred pages from it, but for all that, it was very well written with minimal typos or niggles, and there were some really funny and touching lines…especially from Tyler. 4.25 stars from me.

The story has two of my fave tropes…fake boyfriend and friends to lovers, although I have to be honest here and say that in common with some other reviewers [whose names I'm actually familiar with obviously], I was sorely tempted to abandon the read as it seemed to be taking forever and I was getting nowhere fast e.g. 40% in, and we’d only gotten 2 weeks along in the fake relationship between Tyler and Josh...it was a pedestrian speed romantic read. There was a lot of filling in of details…too much for me actually, which let you know what one or other was thinking/doing while the chapter you were currently reading was devoted to the other MC. The whole thing between Josh and his former love Ryan [Tyler’s older brother] was annoying as hell, and someone seriously needed to give Ryan a good kick in the privates for his piss-poor treatment of Josh, and Josh needed to stop being a doormat for Ryan and finally stand up for himself.

Things I liked :

Brad [Tyler’s middle brother]
Purvi [Tyler’s PA and bestie] and the texting between her and her boss
The banter between the good Dr Rosen and his blue elf
Tyler's waspish tongue and snarky remarks
The whole ‘I had such a crush on you when I was a teenager’ thing…yes, there may have been a little insta-love in there too, but at least Tyler and Josh had a little history, and the fake relationship thing which clearly wasn’t…they were undoubtedly head over heels for each other after only a couple of weeks.

Things I disliked :

The jury’s still out on Ryan...he did some good things but he was still a pig sometimes
Tyler’s evasive mum and ‘dad’, and his abusive treatment towards Tyler
The conversion therapy centre and what happened there [let’s hope the ruddy place gets shut down]
Josh’s father, a complete cretin...ooh and the dreaded David of course
The fact that the story was 500+ pages long, when I’m sure it could’ve been condensed into a lot less.

I’m not going into full, frank and meaningfuls about the story…if *I* can read 500+ pages, so can you but I will say that there are trigger warnings about self-harming and abuse if you need to look out for those. As for me, I’ll definitely be reading further work from this new author, but some friendly advice...get some guidance about what to leave in and what to chop from an editor before your next epic tome....or you know, just employ that editor to sort it for you.

Childhood Crush and the Falling Star - Fake Fiancé

This is an excellent story with complex characters and a fake romance that becomes more real the more that Tyler and Josh get to know each other as adults since Tyler was only a teenager the last time they saw each other at the Lake.
I only took off a star because I'm squeamish and this story involves cutting, which is fine, but there's one scene at the beginning from the book which involved too much blood for my liking, though once I got past that, the rest was captivating as I wanted to know more about why the guys are both so emotionally wounded. This is a slow burn, and there are ups and downs, but I was rooting for Tyler and Josh to make it in the end.
Michael Ferraiuolo is one of my top ten favourite narrators and he does an excellent job of bringing the story to life, which is why I was able to stay engaged with the story in spite of feeling slightly squeamish to start with when an accident happens involving Tyler, Josh and the dock of the family lake house.
Highly recommended for lovers of secret crush, fake relationship stories.

Danaged hearts...

I picked this book up first because I am a fan of Mr Ferraiuolo and then the description called to me. Tyler and Josh’s lives couldn’t be more different and their age difference puts them a at length but they are of such similar hearts it hurts. Their story made me want to hug both characters and I laughed and snickered at their conversations not only between them both but with their friends. It’s a deep feel book, with triggers for some (so beware), awful secrets, loud mouths but it’s also light hearted and with an awesome hea. I particularly want to know Ryan’s story next.

Terrific story

I really loved this story. It definitely had some ups and downs, which added a lot to it. I loved Tyler and Josh. The secondary characters added a lot to the story.
I really liked the narrator's voice. He had great voices for all the characters and made the story flow.
I recommend this audio book.

Damage Control by Lynn Van Dorn. Wow what a great story for 2 beautifully damaged people. This story will take you on a great roller coaster ride of emotions that leaves you feeling wonderful at the end. A good combination of world building and character development.

Fantastic narration for a really emotional story

Lynn Van Dorn has written such a strong story with two characters that are brought together again after Tyler has a sex tape released to the media as he starts to become a name in Hollywood and Josh is in the right place to play his fake boyfriend. There's a slight problem with Josh having been in (unrequited) love with Tyler's older brother since they were kids and the intense amount of trauma that Tyler has experienced with having a bully for a father and being sent to a gay conversion camp several times. There are several hard moments to listen with incidents of self harm, a reference to branding and rape.
The two men build up a great relationship over time, commiserating over heartache but also butting heads as Tyler is so used to fighting everything himself. There is a big supporting cast of family and friends that bring tension and drama but also love and support.
Whilst at times, it was tough to listen to with Tyler's history and mental state, this was an incredible story. I was gripped right from the start and just rooting for the couple to pull through everything thrown at them. Cannot recommend this story enough!! The author has weaved a tale of pain, love, family drama and lasting friendships.
Michael Ferraiuolo is absolutely amazing as the narrator for this story. He really brings to life the depth of character for everyone involved and provides individualisation for all of the voices. Every emotion is brought forth and felt as I listened to the book. Michael is fast become a favourite narrator!
