About this listen

A race against time becomes a battle for the soul in this suspenseful story from New York Times best seller Jeffery Deaver.

Death is a topic Bradford Douglas is intimately familiar with. The young attorney is on a crusade against capital punishment. He’s saved a number of death row inmates, but none of his cases has been as tough as the one he now faces: Henry Combs, a vicious serial killer, has only hours to live when Douglas is summoned for a Hail Mary attempt to have the man’s sentence commuted to life imprisonment.

As Douglas races to pursue whatever strategies he can think of, he finds his passion for justice giving way to something altogether different.

An obsession.

Too short!

I wasn't overwhelmed by this book! I missed the part that tells the reader it is a tiny book! Sorry Jeffrey.

Short & Sharp

Usually, read/listen to Deaver's normal novels but this short story was free so gave it a go. Interesting similar to the longer novels I think if Deaver really thought about it he could have had a winner with a proper novel. It was quite creepy and the ending was different to what I thought it would be if you want a quick exciting listen-only takes just under an hour this is the one

OK, if a little predictable

Reasonably entertaining short listen for free. Well read and well written. Interesting concept which would lend itself to a series of shorts.

Not the expected ending anticipated.

An interesting story engaging the listening mind into the plight of a man facing the death penalty.
Scope to touch upon the legal process and the moral issues around the subject.
Have always enjoyed treading the author’s words and my pleasure was maintained by this dramatic presentation.
I liked the narrator and the pace of delivery.
Interesting twist as often provided in these short stories but not obvious until the very end.

More predictable than Jeffrey Deaver's usual stuff

I've always enjoyed Jeffrey Deaver books, both full length and Twisted and More Twisted, the short story collections. This audible book is less than an hour so would fit more into these collections that as a standalone book. The first half of the book was interesting and set the scene well. As the story progressed there weren't many places it could go and the ending was very predictable, perhaps due to having read one of the stories in Twisted.

Worth a quick listen as you can finish in one go and it's included in the free listens. I wouldn't buy it or use a credit on it though.

Good short story. Read well with an unexpected ending. Worth a listen as it’s free.

Short & Punchy

I was second-guessing this, the whole way through. Excellent twist at the end, I did not see coming.

It wouldn't be bad but...

Sorry but this narrator has been the worst I've ever heard. Diction matters. It was hard to focus on the story
