Martin Jarvis is genius

I'd never thought to read Charles Dickens, and Martin Jarvis was my way in because of him reading the Jeeves books which I love. I was amazed but probably not too surprised that he was also perfect for this. He brings everything to life, the humanity and characters. It's set in the past but feels present in that way. I also shouldn't be surprised that Charles Dickens has a reputation for good reason. So I can recommend 5/5 stars in every way

A slow start but stick with it. It's brilliant

The narrador did a fantastic job of bringing the characters to life! Dickens creates a wonderful world where coincidences cannot stop happening. You cannot help notice him putting his own opinions across through David.

Exceptional performance of a wonderful story.

David Copperfield is often said to be Dickens' most appealing novel and in this version, ably narrated - although performed would a better verb - by the hugely talented Martin Jarvis, it really comes alive. I found this edition thoroughly enjoyable from start to finish with Jarvis rendering some of Dickens' most-loved characters with energy, sympathy and gusto. Simply brilliant writing bought to life in this wonderful audio edition. Recommended.

Such a joy

What a true delight it has been to hear Martin Jarvis reading David Copperfield- every character with its own distinctive voice written vividly and then portrayed so beautifully by Jarvis. Funny moving and suspenseful.
