Summary

The unrivalled Albert Campion returns to solve another shocking murder - classic crime fiction at its very best. J.S. Lafcadio, the painter, is dead. He wanted lasting fame and he left instructions to his wife for one painting to be exhibited every year after his death. Eight years later in Little Venice, a group of friends and family gather to view the painting. They are treated instead to a murder....

Nostalgia and Crime

Margery Allingham created an unusual amateur sleuth in Campion. He moves in a society we no longer have and it is a delight to read about it. The crimes he solves are intriguing and in this case peopled by eccentrics which adds a touch of humour.

Disappointing

Not as amusing as others in the series - rather a low-spirited sad plot. But very well read.

Margery Margery Margery you are a Master

What a beautifully crafted piece, loved all of it what nuanced irony and so atmospheric.
Would love to hear more of Belle Darling with Campion.
Francis Matthews I wish you were the only narrator of Margery’s novels

Ran out of............

Death of a Ghost started off really well, but then it was as if the author ran out of ideas and couldn't think of a good ending. mid way through it began to ramble and the ending was weak (I won't say anymore for new readers).
I do enjoy these gentle detective mysteries and I will try some of the earlier books when, perhaps ,the author still has fresh
ideas ?

Brilliantly read

A very good Campion story and superbly read by Francis Matthews. The characterisations were spot on.

Narration to awful to treat seriously .

If this narration wasn’t so ludicrously funny it would be possible to hear just how silly the book is . So glad it only cost me three pounds odd .

Excellent story and interpretation

With an ever evolving story line displaying the second shade of subtlety as Allingham calls it as layer upon layer is unravelled this is quite fascinating. Add to it Francis Matthews with one of the best narrations I've heard and you cannot be disappointed.

Clever story and fantastic narration

An interesting set of characters, intelligently written and wonderfully narrated. My first Margery Allingham but won't be my last!
