Det fælles udgangspunkt for novellerne er bøgerne og litteraturen, der ofte viser sig at stå i kontrast til den virkelighed, som hovedpersonerne også lever i.
Per Gammelgaard (f. 1948) blev uddannet bibliotekar i 1973 og har siden da skrevet en række digtsamlinger. I 1981 debuterede han som romanforfatter med "Er du hjemme, Johanne?"
