About this listen
Carl Maria von Weber (1786-1826) wurde bereits mit nur 18 Jahren Kapellmeister in Breslau, später Operndirektor in Prag und am Dresdner Hoftheater. Dort ließ er die Sänger, anstatt in italienischer, in deutscher Sprache singen. Bei den Vorstellungen begleitete ihn sein Äffchen "Schnuff", was für Verwunderung beim Publikum sorgte. Er komponierte Messen und Opern, von denen "Der Freischütz" die bekannteste ist. Die Oper wurde 1821 in Berlin uraufgeführt.
