This book reveals so much and Is truly heartbreaking.
A must read into the corruption and negligence from the top people in America.
Well done Beth Mach for shedding light onto this subject and everyone who told their story of pure heartbreak.

This is really important. The OxyContin epidemic took some of my best friends. The TV series is fantastic. But, why O why did the author narrate her own work. This book deserves better. Needs a professional narrator. Such a shame.

Heartbreaking but informative.

This book comes at the problem of heroin addiction from all angles in a no nonsense manner.

This is a heartbreaking read, you often can't believe what you're hearing. It's just so unreal how much large companies like Purdue get away with, and continue to get away with. The narrator is clear.

This should be compulsory reading for everyone. The case studies humanise a very human and misunderstood problem and also lay out the underlying contradictions in treatment approaches and attitudes to addiction in general. The tendency for addicts to be criminalised and taken into the criminal justice and penal systems with devastating consequences is not unique to the US and it was interesting to see how many overlaps there are between treatment approaches globally in spite of a growing problem and little evidence that traditional criminalisation techniques work.

I downloaded this after watching the TV show.

Unlike the TV this isn't as focused on the Sackler Family.

I found it a bit distressing at times and especially the epilogue.

I see some people have remarked on the narrator but I had no issue and it can be a thing which annoys me.

At the end of the book I'm firmly of the view the author needed to be the narrator.

A soild 5 from me.

One of the more harrowing, frustrating and yet necessary books I've ever read. An illustration of the errors of politicalising of drug use and drug treatment, where an uneducated public continue down the pathway of calling for simple abstinence and religious based 12-step programmes in face of scientific evidence of a different solution.

I didn't enjoy this book. It's a collection of events and stories, a bit like a too long article in a newspaper. I struggled to follow the story and finish the book
