THE INSTANT SUNDAY TIMES NO.1 BESTSELLER; LONGLISTED FOR THE WOMEN'S PRIZE FOR FICTION 2025

A publishing event ten years in the making – a searing, exquisite new novel by the bestselling and award-winning author of Americanah and We Should All Be Feminists – the story of four women and their loves, longings and desires.

‘The major publication milestone of 2025’ OBSERVER

'The return of a literary titan' TELEGRAPH

CHOSEN AS A SUNDAY TIMES, GUARDIAN, OBSERVER, FINANCIAL TIMES, INDEPENDENT, TELEGRAPH, GQ and COSMOPOLITAN BOOK OF 2025.

Chiamaka is a Nigerian travel writer living in America. Alone in the midst of the pandemic, she recalls her past lovers and grapples with her choices and regrets. Zikora, her best friend, is a lawyer who has been successful at everything until — betrayed and brokenhearted — she must turn to the person she thought she needed least. Omelogor, Chiamaka’s bold, outspoken cousin, is a financial powerhouse in Nigeria who begins to question how well she knows herself. And Kadiatou, Chiamaka’s housekeeper, is proudly raising her daughter in America – but faces an unthinkable hardship that threatens all she has worked to achieve.

In Dream Count, Adichie trains her fierce eye on these women in a sparkling, transcendent novel that takes up the very nature of love itself. Is true happiness ever attainable or is it just a fleeting state? And how honest must we be with ourselves in order to love, and to be loved? A trenchant reflection on the choices we make and those made for us, on daughters and mothers, on our interconnected world, Dream Count pulses with emotional urgency and poignant, unflinching observations on the human heart, in language that soars with beauty and power. It confirms Adichie’s status as one of the most exciting and dynamic writers on the literary landscape.

I loved many aspects of this novel, so much resonates with my life.

Especially love lost and the effort we pour into relationships, to make them work.

Thank you.

I liked Omelogor’s character so much. Kadi’s as well. I have now gone on a tangent researching Strauss Kahn. Why do men rape?! “Nwanyi ibem” is such an igbo mum statement to make.

Loved this book so much!

I absolutely loved this - I expected to because Chimamanda Ngozie Adiche is one of my favourite authors. But this was breathtaking. There are so many beautifully painted moments and emotions that felt so authentic to my experience of being a woman. And yes, I’ve seen some criticism of this book that there is too much reference to men making it disappointing but in reality, to me, it was about so much more than that. And of course for some women, men and relationships are hugely important - likewise some novels by men touch upon love - this doesn’t diminish its power in my eyes. One of the most important things for me was in the perception of life through the lens of people from a different continent, although I read a lot of Nigerian literature, as well as other countries’ authors, I seldom feel like there is the perspective shift that allows an insight into how self centred the American and British cultural lens is. Countless times I wanted to make note of a pithy insight. In this book is so much of race, gender and humanity. I was so drawn in to each character’s world and loved them so much that I feel like I’ve had four great novels in one. Chimamanda Ngozi Adiche is so clever, and skilled in her craft, that this book has made me want to go back to all her previous work and read it again.

Absolutely loved it, another insightful and moving book from one of my favourite authors

Excellent Storyline

The story telling and subject matter is both thoughtful and considered.
The stories of all the women was interesting & I felt as a mixed race Afro British person, very truthful, accurate and resonated with me.
The view of how Americans don’t discuss racism was brilliantly put.
Something about the style slightly stopped me from being too drawn in.
Would definitely recommend

Truthful view of being a black privileged west African living in two worlds

Chimamanda weaves words so beautifully - I frequently paused just to savour a particular phrase. I found chapter 11 of Omelogor especially thought-provoking; an African perspective on the pomposity of the USA and of a world increasingly incapable of humane debate and anything beyond the binary.

Beautifully written and thought-provoking

Chimamanda Ngozie Adichie is just brilliant. This book is 19 hrs long and I'd have happily done another 19 hrs with the 4 main characters. it's like being given an unfiltered sneak peak into someone's private thoughts,. I got very heavily vested in these 4 very different women's intertwined lives. it's worth it. I'm planning to get a physical copy just in case Audible ceases to exist.

perfectly paced engrossing novel

I loved the familiar storytelling from Chimamanda with the real exposure to the complicated and heart wrenching relationships of modern women. Versions of Kadi’s story are all too familiar and show the differences and similarities between the Western and African justice regarding assault.

The intertwining of 4 uniquely African Women transversing the modern world
