Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy hat nicht nur komponiert, sondern auch eine schier unüberschaubare Menge an Briefen geschrieben. Besonders intensiv tauschte er sich mit seiner Schwester Fanny aus. Der Briefwechsel zwischen den beiden umfasst in gedruckter Form allein rund 400 Buchseiten und wurde von Eva Weißweiler herausgegeben. In ihren Briefen diskutieren die Geschwister Musikalisches und Familiäres und versichern einander immer wieder ihrer zärtlichen Zuneigung. Nadine Kettler und Patrick Blank lesen ausgewählte Briefe.
