great progression of character and world building

today I learned that William D Arand has lost the ability to write a good book.
I'll admit here, I only managed to listen to roughly to an hour and ten minutes before quitting entirely and here's why.
In the previous book and start of the second book(Spoilers from here on out), the protagonist had essentially just confessed to a number of things. Mainly: Being magically bound to a dungeon, sleeping with multiple women, betraying the false queen - to his wives.
The two wives, Diane and Adele felt obviously betrayed by this, and rightfully so. so what happens? "Oh we forgive you this time, but don't do it again! now let's get down and dirty."
Wat.
you. had. a. perfect. opportunity. for. character. development. and. you. didn't. take. it?
ok, so maybe you missed out here but we've still got roughly 13 hours of story left and we left on a war between two religions and the mysterious 'dark king of the north' has appeared. what happens next.
sex. just sex and constant mentioning that the protagonist is perfect. I'm not joking here, from getting "groomed" by a minotaur then repairing her with a simple spell. To sleeping with a hobgoblin after convincing her that her insecurities aren't that much of a deal. To almost sleeping with a fairy after brushing off a fairly IMPORTANT part of the dungeon!
we're an hour in an I'm desperate for some actual story progression and FINALLY! the protagonist is starting to develop an army and preparing to defend the rightful queen. For some time the protagonist and three of his love interests are actually trying to do something productive!
and the Mino the minotaur is trying to "groom" him again... COME ON!
And right here is when I quit, in the middle of this specific moment one minor thing popped into this scene that made me realise so much about why William D Arand won't improve.
during the "grooming" session Mino mentions that the protagonist hasn't got a "leaders voice". ok? why does that matter? The protagonist uses a magic spell and "ta da!" he has a Heroic voice.
Not a SINGLE time has his voice been mentioned as an issue in any circumstances throughout the story and suddenly we're changing it!? And I GENUINELY believe that this was written here because William didn't like the sound of the protagonists voice by Andrea Parsneau. Sure it wasn't the best voice in the world but really!? Are you that upset over a character having a slightly geeky voice? and then it hit me. The protagonist no direct flaws- and before you say "he can only cast a few spells." tell me this, when has that "flaw" been an actual problem in the book? has he tried to kill someone, only to run out of spells? tried to save someone's life but ran out of spells? no we only know it's the reason that he was kicked from the adventurers guild.
I get OP characters but even they have flaws. several books have done OP characters. a perfect example is Rezkin from Kel Kade's series "dark tidings". A character who is a master assassin, knows how to manipulate people but lacks common sense. women try to seduce him and he doesn't know what love is! That is a character that is OP but FLAWED!
There are probably more thing's that I could pick up on if I read the whole book like how there will be another heroine (s) that will jump into the protagonists bed, because why not? but instead I'll end with a quote that my English teacher taught me when I was in school.
"a flawless character, is a boring character."
No longer a fan of his work, I've finally given up
