About this listen

INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

From a famous actor and an experienced journalist, a wildly entertaining debunking of cryptocurrency, one of the greatest frauds in history and on course for a spectacular crash.

At the height of the pandemic, TV star Ben McKenzie (The O.C., Gotham) was the perfect mark for cryptocurrency: a dad stuck at home with some cash in his pocket, worried about his family, armed with only the vague notion that people were making heaps of money on something he—despite a degree in economics—didn’t entirely understand. Lured in by the promise of taking power from banks, possibly improving democracy, and sure, a touch of FOMO, McKenzie dove deep into blockchain, Bitcoin, and the various other coins and exchanges on which they are traded. But after scratching the surface, he had to ask, “Am I crazy, or is this all a total scam?”

In Easy Money, McKenzie enlists the help of journalist Jacob Silverman for a caper and exposé that points in shock to the climactic final days of cryptocurrency now upon us. Weaving together stories of average traders and victims, colorful crypto “visionaries,” Hollywood’s biggest true believers, anti-crypto whistleblowers, and government agents searching for solutions at the precipice of a major crash, Easy Money is an on-the-ground look at a perfect storm of 2008 Housing Bubble-level irresponsibility and criminal fraud potentially ten times more devastating than Bernie Madoff.

This book does an excellent job of explaining crypto-currencies and the problems with them. It is put down in a very understandable manner. I found the anecdotes of meeting the people he met along the way an excellent addition to what could have otherwise been a dry discussion of economics.

There are a few problems with the recording that need to be fixed, but otherwise, I appreciated Ben McKenzie doing the recording, It gave the book the depth required to be both informative and entertaining.

A must read for anyone considering Crypto

Well put together and lots of advice and information for the uninitiated. It’s a minefield.

Gossipy fun insight with serious intent

Very interesting story, well performed. There are three or so recording issues along the way, but ultimately a very thought provoking listen.

loved this book! well researched, the truth must be told and understood by people. the "investors",who have been conned will take a long time to get closure and will stay oblivious for a long time. a few have made money but the majority has been fooled. great book!

Ben’s personality shines through, and it’s really great to hear the real world court cases catching up to the story as it plays out

Great listen - very well researched and eye opening on what crypto is all about

I really enjoyed this book. I wanted to know more about Cypto and this book certainly delivers but what makes it a great listen is the interwoven story of discovery that Ben McKenzie went on to uncover more about this world: the people he met, the travels he took, even running into some “CIA” operatives.

Having the author himself narrate the book is always a bonus, especially when delivered by a great performer but the genuine passion around the topic his quest to write the book comes through

Come for the crypto info but stay for the story

I’d highly recommend this book, not only for those interested in Crypto or finance, but anyone who enjoys documentaries and well researched, well told journalism. The authors own journey when writing the book is really entertaining and engaging and the voice performance is great. One of the best things I’ve downloaded on Audible.
