About this listen

The economy is always changing, but some things are eternal! Economics for Dummies, 3rd Edition, gives you everything you need to understand our rapidly evolving economy as well as the basics that never change. What's the best way to fight poverty? How can governments boost employment and wage growth? What can be done to protect endangered species and the environment?

This book answers all of those questions in simple language while tracking with a traditional introductory economics class. Following in the steps of the first and second editions, the thoroughly updated 3rd Edition is a useful study guide and supplement to any high school or college level economics class.

Discover the ins and outs of irrational consumers. Understand and apply the most powerful tool in economics: the model of supply and demand. Understand the origins and aftermath of financial crises, and more.

Economics for Dummies has supplied hundreds of thousands of students with an approachable reference book, while also providing an informational outlet for anyone curious about how businesses, consumers, and governments interact to produce and distribute all the goods and services that we enjoy today.

Very difficult without the book

This isn’t an easy listen unless you’ve got the book in front of you or are good at visualising graphs in your head.
The narration also sounds like it was done by AI rather than a human.
I’m sure the book is great, but it doesn’t work as an audiobook.

Not an audiobook

Unfortunately although a lot of content, a significant amount needs the referencing of various graphs so not suitable as an audiobook.

A somewhat partisan introduction to economics

Some useful introduction to basic concepts. The author’s own political opinions however seem to come across more strongly than anything in places. If you’re looking for an introduction to key concepts without a substantial dose of ideology, this may not be it.

It's not an audiobook

This is not an audiobook. It's virtually impossible to follow it without the book or at the very least a pdf file. Whilst I can easily imagine the curve of a graph when he describes them, there is no way for me to know what on earth he is on about when he say "if you look at graph X" or "if you see point Z". He often references graphs and formulas we have no visual access to, and that makes it really difficult to follow. Audible should have added a PDF with all the relevant data in order to make this a better listening experience.
Now, with that a side, I would highly recommend the actual book as he explains the subject in simple terms and makes easy to understand analogies. I'm not sure it could be said it's for dummies as you will need some solid maths basis, but the language and the way he relates the information is simple enough.
I didn't like the heavy USA influence in his way of thinking, but as I couldn't finish the audiobook (listen to 51% of it) I can not certain that didn't change later on.
