Bei genauer Betrachtung zeigt sich "wie sich die Zauberei, die man früher für einen Wahn des Pöbels hielt, prinzipmäßig aus den Denkgesetzen selbst entwickeln lässt und gleiche Notwendigkeit mit ihnen hat, zugleich aber, warum dieser Gegenstand bisher so lange im Unsichern geblieben ist" (Fechner).
