L'Évangile selon Matthieu est le premier des quatre évangiles canoniques que contient le Nouveau Testament. Il est aussi le tout premier livre du Nouveau Testament. Ce livre a été attribué pendant de longs siècles à l'apôtre Matthieu, le collecteur d'impôts devenu disciple de Jésus de Nazareth.
L'Évangile selon Matthieu contient le sermon sur la montagne. La portion la mieux connue est probablement celle des Béatitudes, qui se trouve au début de la section. Il contient aussi la prière du Notre Père et les injonctions contre la loi du talion "Ne résistez pas à celui qui vous veut du mal" et "Si quelqu'un te gifle sur la joue droite, tends-lui aussi l'autre", ainsi que la version de Jésus de la Règle d'or.
