Christian Fürchtegott Gellert (1715-1769) war ein deutscher Dichter und Moralphilosoph der Aufklärung und galt zu seinen Lebzeiten neben Christian Felix Weiße als meistgelesener deutscher Schriftsteller. Ob er uns Heutigen noch etwas zu sagen hat? Einige seiner meist kurzen Gedichte mögen etwas trivial wirken, enthalten auch Klischees, die vor allem manchen Hörerinnen nicht gefallen werden. Aber viele sind zeitlos weise, lebensklug, jedenfalls zum Nachdenken anregend, oft auch einfach vergnüglich und manchmal, was die Arbeit eines Autors anlangt, selbstironisch. Pauschal zu verachten sind sie gewiss nicht.
