Summary

Factfulness: The stress-reducing habit of carrying only opinions for which you have strong supporting facts.

When asked simple questions about global trends - why the world's population is increasing; how many young women go to school; how many of us live in poverty - we systematically get the answers wrong. So wrong that a chimpanzee choosing answers at random will consistently outguess journalists, Nobel laureates, and investment bankers.

In Factfulness, Professor of International Health and a man who can make data sing, Hans Rosling, together with his two longtime collaborators Anna and Ola, offers a radical new explanation of why this happens and reveals the 10 instincts that distort our perspective.

It turns out that the world, for all its imperfections, is in a much better state than we might think. But when we worry about everything all the time instead of embracing a worldview based on facts, we can lose our ability to focus on the things that threaten us most.

Inspiring and revelatory, filled with lively anecdotes and moving stories, Factfulness is an urgent and essential book that will change the way you see the world.

Important book

One of the most important books you will ever read - you will find yourself reaching for the facts before forming a reactionary opinion.

Changed the way I see the world

This book made me see the world in a much clearer more positive light. The main takeaways I got from this are: (1) a clearer understanding of the different levels of poverty and (2) a better idea of the biases that affect the way we see the world and how consuming the media without knowledge of these biases will skew the way we see the world in a much more negative direction. Definitely recommend this book to everyone.

Factfulness is the best book ever! Fact!

I wish I had read this book 20 years ago. There have been some amazing books in the past couple of decades, but for me this tops them all, including Thinking Fast and Slow.

I cannot recommend it enough and you cannot read it quick enough - so better read it today!

You'll become even a better person that you are for yourself, your family and the world around you, both in behavior and of course through the knowledge you gain in this book, you will become more confident and ultimately earn more.

Worth a second read 👍

I read this last year and revisited it again over the last couple of weeks. The book packs quite a punch. It should be compulsory reading in schools to ensure that the world view of the next generation is more accurate than my own.

one of the best book I have ever read.

I loved this book. Everybody should read it and be shocked of how much we don't know of the world.

Possibly the most important book you'll read.

The tools presented here really help to critically assess the information we are fed every day. I've already found myself using them to assess 'lonely' numbers presented as evidence for s particularly viewpoint. It's a highly readable book too, not dense or difficult to comprehend, it's clear, concise and engaging.

Be factful

Technology helps us to improve our life and blind our sight. This book and all Hans and Gapminder works help to see the true world we are living in not the misleading and fake world. In the era when information is gold hope we have more of Hans. I strongly recommend this book and all Hans talks and presentations.

An excellent book - essential listening

A perfectly concise exploration of how your world view is probably drastically out of date, and how through a fact based approach and awareness of biases, you can view the world through a new found spotlight.

Genuinely brilliant

Just read/listen to it. If you don’t learn at least one remarkable thing (you’ll learn many including some uncomfortable truths) then you haven’t understood it.
