About this listen
If you’re different enough, the night is not your enemy, the darkness is not intimidating, the shadows are not terrifying. You fear nothing.
Christopher Snow is different from all the other residents of Moonlight Bay, different from anyone you’ve ever met. For Christopher Snow has made his peace with a very rare genetic disorder that leaves him dangerously vulnerable to light. His life is filled with the fascinating rituals of one who must embrace the dark. He knows the night as no one else can - its mystery, its beauty, its terrors, and the eerie silken rhythms that seduce one into believing anything - even freedom - is possible.
Until the night Christopher Snow witnesses a series of disturbing incidents that sweep him into a violent mystery only he can solve, a mystery that will force him to rise above all fears and confront the many-layered secrets of Moonlight Bay and its strange inhabitants. A place, like all places, that looks a lot different after dark.

This book was written before Koontz lost his way, forgot about the importance of plot and character development and got caught up in his own overly flowery language which makes his new books such a chore to read (I gave up on him after One Door Away From Heaven).
The only reason I didn't give this 5 stars is because it took me a while to get used to the narrator, as I had a very vivid idea in my head of how Chris would talk and he wasn't it, but that's just my personal taste.
However the narrator does a brilliant job, the story is creepy, mysterious, tense, scary and everything you want and expect from earlier Koontz. Now I'm off to listen to the sequel, Seize The Night!!!
Fantastic first story in the (almost) trilogy

Some great advice is included in the pages. Don't try to leave your mark on this world - It's perfectly beautiful, and man's in attempts to make it better usually kick us in the butt. Humanity should stop meddling.
The second book "Seize The Night" is also brilliant. The town's supposedly closed down military base is also mentioned in "Odd Interlude".
I highly recommend all three books!!
Great story. Fantastic narrator.
