About this listen

Best-selling author James Patterson and award-winning sportswriter Mike Lupica team up to launch this power-family football thriller, a pre-game for their next blockbuster, The House of Wolves.

Meet the Wolf. Joe Wolf. He’s the head of a multibillion-dollar empire—a newspaper, a holding company, a football team—and the head of a family that puts King Lear to shame.

His empire shows signs of crumbling when he’s approached with an “offer” to sell. It’s clear from the start that Joe is going to pay the ultimate price—and maybe more—if he refuses.

Narration is shocking, the story sets up a new book which I don’t mind but it is short and is really a background piece.

Quick listen but an opener for another book

Sorry this was just a setup book for another book and I spent 1 credit on it for such a short read.

Disappointed

Actually quite liked this whilst it is very much an advert for the next one. It’s good and not bad in terms of narration and story.

Short and sweet

Was a nice length but not as usually good as others he has wrote sadly

Not much

Just a very long advert for the next book. I like James Patterson but this was an unusual book for him. Good job it was free or I would have felt cheated.

Nothing to fear here

Was hoping for an exciting taster in readiness for the next book.

Too slow. Didn’t grip me.

Move on ….

Boring

Patterson is very famous for his book series, some of which ended up as movies, like Alex Cross. this is related to his 2023 book House of Wolves. it is an incentive for the book, it's nice to have as is, if you like the style and plot you can opt to listen to the novel. thriller and drama, amongst other things, it centres around the owner of a newspaper and football club and team, called the Wolves, after the main character's last name. did not particularly find it interesting.

book prequel

It’s not a standalone story it’s the unnecessary first act of a different book to tempt you in.

Don’t bother
