About this listen

From the Edge of Reality Series
this is "Fell Before Falling"

Steve Morton and his lovely wife, Cherie live a good life, as a thirty-something couple just starting to take off in their respective careers. That is until a speedbump intrudes on their tranquil road of existence. It is a hiccup in spacetime that begins to unravel reality as they know it. It is a horrible recurring event that appears to have but one escape–death.

I’m usually not one to gravitate toward books that delve into dreams and the blurred lines between reality and fantasy, but this book completely hooked me from the start.
The main character, Steve, feels so relatable and grounded. He’s a guy who seems to have it all together—well, at least on the surface. What starts as an unsettling nightmare quickly turns into a mystery that keeps you guessing. The way Steve’s dreams are not just strange, but oddly specific (like knowing exactly what floor of a building he’s falling from) gives the story a chilling, surreal edge that makes you question whether these dreams are trying to tell him something—or if they’re something more sinister.
The recurring dreams Steve has, each more vivid and unsettling than the last, draw you in deeper. The mix of dream sequences and real-world moments creates a constant feeling of unease. I particularly loved the moment when Steve mentions how he wasn’t afraid while falling in his dream, something that stuck with me long after I finished reading. It makes you wonder: what does that calmness mean?
There’s also an eerie, almost supernatural undercurrent to the plot. The detailed dream sequences, especially the one with the cotton candy memory, left me questioning what’s real and what’s imagined.
Overall, this book is a compelling blend of suspense, mystery, and psychological depth. The premise of dreams becoming so real they begin to affect the waking world is brilliantly executed. If you enjoy stories that keep you thinking long after you’ve turned the last page, this one is a must-read.

This is an incredibly complex and mysterious Twighlight Zone-like story! It had me guessing and flipping back and forth between the pages to put all the clues together. Yet even with all my detective work, there are huge plot twists I never saw coming, especially towards the end! This story makes you question what is real and what isn't. It's interesting how someone so put-together, successful, and happily married (the main character, Steve Morton) could end up with his life suddenly spinning out of control. It all begins from having reoccurring nightmares that he fears could have a deadly result. The author does a great job of using symbols in the dreams that cleverly represents certain events, places, and people that may or may not be from his past.

The characters in this story are very authentic and full of emotion and expression, especially Steve's wife, Cherie (plot twist on her later!). The "time hiccup" is an interesting concept that is so shocking and surreal at the end of the story. Highly recommend, especially to all sci-fi, Twighlight Zone, and psychological suspense fans.

Excellent Suspense
