About this listen
Be careful who you love…
It’s the year 2000, and while Bunny McGarry is theoretically on sabbatical from the police, he just can’t help sticking his nose in where it doesn’t belong.
Rosie Flint is an old acquaintance of Bunny’s whose boyfriend mysteriously disappears off the face of the Earth. What starts out as a simple missing person’s case soon gets a whole lot more complicated when it emerges that the boyfriend is not who he claimed to be, and there are some rather sinister people showing an unhealthy interest in Rosie.
Bunny is only trying to help a friend, but it’s just a matter of time before he finds himself at loggerheads with his colleagues on the force, having to reassess some events from his past and unwittingly involved in a major political coup.
He won’t be able to do this alone, so it is a good thing he can call upon a certain band of kick-ass nuns to do what they do best. And he might even find a use for a 12-year-old boy who is desperate to escape from an Irish language summer school.
Firewater Blues is the sixth book in McDonnell’s critically acclaimed best-selling and increasing inaccurately titled Dublin Trilogy. It mixes high-octane thrills with distinct Irish wit.

Bunny's Back!
I am so happy that not only has the 'Dublin Trilogy' been extended but that Bunny is back in Ireland. While I did enjoy and will still enjoy reading about Bunny's stateside adventures, I felt they lacked that charm of the original trilogy. They seemed to take on a more cinematic scope that wasn't there when he was plodding around the streets of Dublin. So after reading the follow up books to the Trilogy's prequel I couldn't be happier.
The charm is back, the laughs are back, and it is shapping up to be one hell of a series. With everything from quirky characters, brilliant cameos, and running gags, this set of books is feeling like a return to a comfortable place. The stories aren't built to stretch and change the Mystery and Crime genre forever, but instead lean into the what makes the Dublin Trilogy so great. Its the characters, the characters that drive the growth and world building. Its almost like the story is secondary to their presence and I love it!
If you're looking for a thrilling and mind bending crime novel, this might not be the one for you. But if you want to be taken on a roller coaster of laughs and tears as characters evolve and grow into their own, just happening to be in a crime novel, then this is the one for you. Plus, Kevin's back!!

Another Rollicking Ride
Love these stories. As another reviewer stated over too soon.
How can you not have a winning mix with Bunny, Deccie and the hard as nails Nuns!
A comical and dark edge blended in this storyline. The murky world of politics given a centre stage here with an Irish lilt and molatolv cocktail wit.

Laugh out loud
Great twists and turns, couldn’t wait until the next chapter but also didn’t want the book to end. Really like the reader especially the different characters.

Love these books
I discovered Caimh McDonnell 2 years ago and what a ride it’s been reading and listening to his stories. Funny, engaging, emotionally enthralling and ridiculous in turn. He’s my new favourite author. Morgan C Jones is the perfect reader for these books, his delivery, pace, tone and timing is spot on.

We need more! We need more! PLEASE!
Please write more books with Bunny, the Nuns, maybe even a book about Mrs Muckers past. What am I going to do on my drive to work now or when I’m doing housework. I have loved all the books so much, and the thought of having no more Bunny McGregor to read makes me sad 😞 I cannot recommend these books highly enough! ❤️✌️
