About this listen

A dangerous expedition. Extraterrestrial alliances. Unpredictable enemies.

Colton Beck has six months to live. He works for the Angor near Los Angeles, aware that any day could be his last.

The Angor arrived 20 years ago, resolved to help mankind survive, but not everyone believes their motives are honorable.

When the Angor offer humanity a colony world, Colton is determined to see another planet before his final breath. He’s been diagnosed with Xeno, a rare disorder that surfaced with the Angor’s arrival, but he won’t let this stop him.

With the help of his old friend Indie Hart, now the single most powerful human on Earth, he joins the Expedition to Dicore. They access the River, an alien technology that allows nearly instantaneous travel between worlds, and their universe is quickly expanded. What they find on Dicore is far from idyllic, and Colton struggles to navigate their new existence while coping with his impending death.

First Life is a gripping science fiction adventure tale from the best-selling author of The Event, Lost Contact, and Final Days.

Boring and rambling

Started out good with an interesting plot, but then goes off into other boring aspects and the plot, if any, is forgotten. Time frames are ignored too. The story starts by saying something specific is going to happen when and where, then that’s completely disregarded and a million other boring things happen, all the while the main character is having introspection most of the time as filler text. Are the aliens good? Are they bad? I don’t know, but asking this over and over again and again is tedious and annoying. Nothing adds up. A character says something, then many chapters later they contradict themselves fully. Any editing done on this author’s books? He needs a copy editor to ensure the story is kept on track and therefore plausible, even if it’s fiction. I sped up listening to this audiobook x 2, but not even that could speed me through to the end. I gave up after nearly half way through.

Could Have Been Mediocre, Ended Up Poor

Started off okay, but by the end it had gotten completely ridiculous. You also get a previous of the next instalment at the end of this book and that gets even worse. It's like the author hasn't planned the story out properly and is just making stuff up as they go along. The result is that people don't act in plausible ways and the story isn't believable.

Wanted some serious sci-fi, but this is not it.
