About this listen

In just seven days, the world will crumble. The System's Descent will usher in a new era of chaos: wild animals mutating, monstrous creatures emerging, and the cessation of modern technology. Humanity will be left defenseless.

Drew Wright knows none of this. At least not until he is rudely ripped from his bed and thrust into a white room to undergo a taser-happy ‘Tutorial’. Turns out, he is one of a thousand randomly selected people to be forewarned of the approaching apocalypse. Now, he faces the delightful task of convincing his wife and mother of the devastation hurtling towards them.

As the System’s Descent draws near, Drew scrambles to prep supplies, fortify his home, and drag his elderly, TV-addicted mother away from her ‘shows’ long enough to listen to him. With monsters knocking at the door, how far is Drew willing to go to save those closest to him?

The dead rise to combat the encroaching darkness as Drew Wright taps into the only power that might save his loved ones—becoming Earth’s first Necromancer.

A little slow to start but worth sticking with.

I received a free copy for an honest review.

Overall I enjoyed listening to this adaptation of the book, but I did find it initially a little slow to get going and draw me in. It is always easy for the listener to pass judgement on something well beyond my capabilities to do, but I think I preferred the kindle version over the audible - could be because I already have in my minds eye images of the characters? Hence the four stars.

Spoilers:
That said things I did enjoy was the naming of Spock and his character development (now I would buy a side story just about him and his demons chickens!). I also like show the author let a significant character bite the bullet and the main MC mother character is so well developed and convincing! The build a base and survive is a common theme, but there was enough variation to make the story interesting.

The narration was great, but then the narrator has a good reputation

Well worth a listen

I love this genre and this first instalment promises to be a series that will remain on my wish list.
I enjoyed the storyline and character development, following author and series and looking forward to book two!

Classically unique

***spoiler***

Loved the fact he had a heads up and he could help his family and friends and already transform them in to the main cast. MC sounded genuine and realistic.

look forward to book 2.

Liked a lot!

I liked it a lot! The story is good, not a tipical necromancer storyline but a well tought story of a reaction to doomsday.

Ok but has a lot of holes

1000 people out of 9 billion and this is the dude we want to focus on. I tried but there are so many similar and better series out there it just makes this seem pale in comparison, too many plot problems and pointless characters.

Great world building

liked how both the main character and the story progressed. Just think the side characters could have been more interesting.

Interesting story

I really liked a lot of things about the book. The premises for the system and possibility for advancement. Some of the choices made by the author doesn't make sense. You get invested in some character that feels like they are going to play some parts as they are mentioned early on and given names and backgrounds, and then it's like they don't exist anymore. I don't want to give away any spoilers. I'll be getting book two when it gets released.

Quite good.

Did like it. was always a fan of system apocalypse stories and this one is pretty decent ,especially for an authors first book. Solid action, not bad humour(thou sometimess falls flat-pointing at obvious comic relief character that become tiring really fast),interesting cast and a potential for a good longer story.
