Det er den poetiske fortælling om et sted i Danmark, hvor livet og dets finurligheder udspiller sig, men det er samtidig historierne om Richard, Anna, Ingeborg, Søren, Christian og William, og hvordan deres liv fungerer som brikker i et meget større puslespil. Per Gammelgaard (f. 1948) blev uddannet bibliotekar i 1973 og har siden da skrevet en række digtsamlinger. I 1981 debuterede han som romanforfatter med "Er du hjemme, Johanne?"
