I 1940 er Frankrig på vej til at blive besat af Tyskland. Den danske forfatter Brita Hartz (1912-2010) skrev en lang række anmelderroste bøger, som både retter sig mod børn, unge og voksne. Hendes fortællinger foregår ofte i fortiden, både i Danmark og ude i den store verden, og er inspireret af historiske begivenheder.
