Democratic Senator Chuck Schumer from New York and Republican Senator Jon Kyl from Arizona, on this edition of Fresh Air. Senator Chuck Schumer was elected to Congress at the age of 29 and served in the House of Representatives for eight years. He just began his second term as a Senator. He is a member of the Senate Democratic Leadership team, and sits on the Senate Finance Committee; the Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs; and the Judiciary Committee. His new book is Positively American: Winning Back the Middle-Class Majority One Family At a Time.

Then, Senator Jon Kyl, who, before being elected into the U.S. Senate in 1994, served in the U.S. House of Representatives. This is his third term as a Senator. He is the third-ranking member of the Republican Leadership. He serves on the Senate's Finance Committee where he is the ranking Republican on the Subcommittee on Taxation and IRS Oversight, and on the Judiciary Committee on Terrorism, Technology and Homeland Security.

Finally, rock critic Ken Tucker reviews Wincing the Night Away, the new recording by the band The Shins. Their song "New Slang" was on the soundtrack to the 2004 Zack Braff movie Garden State. [Broadcast Date: January 30, 2007]
