Philanthropist and investor George Soros and philanthropist William Schambra on this edition of Fresh Air. Soros is the chairman of Soros Fund Management and the Open Society Institute. His new book is The Age of Fallibility: Consequences of The War on Terror. Soros is a multibillionaire (his worth has been estimated at over $7 billion) who has directed his philanthropic efforts toward defeating George W Bush in 2004 (he gave $5 million to MoveOn.org), overthrowing communism in Eastern Europe, helping black students attend university in apartheid South Africa, and repealing drug prohibition laws internationally. Soros is also a philosopher. His previous books include The Bubble of American Supremacy and The Alchemy of Finance.

Philanthropist William Schambra is the director of the conservative Bradley Center for Philanthropy and Civic Renewal at the Hudson Institute. Prior to his work at the Hudson Institute, he was senior advisor and speechwriter to Attorney General Edwin Meese under President Ronald Reagan. Schambra has written for many publications including The Christian Science Monitor, the Wall Street Journal, The Washington Times and The Public Interest. (Broadcast Date: July 13, 2006)
