I was initially attracted to this book by the cover. I have recently read ' ready player one' and had a yearning to read more about the virtual VR world. I liked the fact that the book was short and easy to read within an afternoon. Unfortunately I didnt enjoy this book as much as I hoped . I think that this related to the fact that I didnt see many redeeming qualities within the main character. It just wasnt for me . I was given this book by the author/narrator in return for an honest and unbiased review of the book

A tale from earlier in the life cycle of an Immersive VR world timeline than other stories, the majority are partaking in some way and this is the story of the birth of a generational evolution for the tech. The main character is at times thoroughly dislikable and seems to have a free-wheeling moral compass, and whilst to me this feels stark at time in the narrative, I have met people like this, eager to do what it takes and self-justify to achieve their own ends. The story is fast moving story and makes for a relatively short audiobook, but overall it left me keen for more from within this world. If you enjoy grungy tech tales, not too far removed from the world we know and want a nice quick read this is a solid bet.

Near future Hollywood, the film industry has been displaced by V.R., then diorama, but even here the sales are down. Theodore Davis's company is desperately seeking the next great thing, whilst reducing staff and making budget cuts. And Ted, with ex girlfriend Lucy, might just have found it.

Deliciously - or is that terrifyingly? - dark, sinister and cynical, Full Catch Diorama travels into the homeless gutters as well as transporting a viewer into another's dreams, by way of greed and ambition. Tim might not be a very pleasant character but he draws the reader into his story in this first person telling of his stkry. Visceral and visual, a lot is packed into this reasonably short novella. It is a quick read and the unexpected ending came all too swiftly.
Narration by Zachary Johnson was superb, perfectly suited to the lead protagonist's character fast paced, rich and fruity with a sarcastic twist, perfectly mirroring the text emotionally and giving individual voice to each of the various protagonists. A fine performance.

My thanks to the rights holder of Full Catch Diorama, who, at my request via Audiobook Boom, freely gifted me with a complimentary copy. This book was dark, but very enjoyable, totally consuming. It felt so possible, that future just about to happen. Probably not for those with a sensitive disposition but otherwise recommended wholeheartedly for nerds and S.F.fans everywhere.

I really liked the feel of this as it started, the narrator was fantastic, really brought fourth the character. Great pacing and tone.

The story as a whole was really interesting, but the central character just seemed a bit of a masoginistic fool. He starts railing on the #metoo movement at one point, another time derisively talking about SJW's and made several other comments I would usually let slide, but they mounted up, and had me concluding "okay, so the central character is an ass hat".
This was a shame as I liked story and the way in which it was being told by the author. But these moments, from a character who otherwise seemed likeable got in my way and just plain annoyed me.

Usually when books tackle the subject of immersive VR, they tend to be set once it has been fully established and integrated into daily life, so the author's decision to go for an earlier phase where there was still room for groundbreaking discoveries was an interesting one and some of the other ideas in it work really well. However, the snarky overall tone of the writing was a little too overbearing at times for me as it felt a little jarring and I didn't connect as readily with the book as I could have done, a little more subtlety to it and the tone would have been perfect for the subject matter, so I am sure some will find it to be spot on.

The narrator's performance worked well with the subject matter, he helped to convey the somewhat bleak nature of the book's world and had a suitably distinctive range of tones for the supporting cast too.

Overall, this is quite a short book and ideal for somebody who would devour it in a single sitting as if it was a long movie, in many respects it felt quite cinematic, try the sample as it gives a good impression of the author's writing style.
