I got this for my parents as a little nudge to explore retirement differently, and they actually loved it. They’ve already started trying out a few ideas mentioned, and now they’re planning a weekly walking group! It gave them fun ways to rethink their time without feeling overwhelmed or pressured. Definitely led to some good laughs and new routines.

You’re about to retire, what comes next? After you tire of binging TV and sleeping in, you’ll want to have a plan. This audiobook will get you there. In it, the author has put together a thoughtful “handbook” with just about everything you need to know when you’re ready to turn off the office light and finally close the door. What’s your retirement vision? With topics ranging from new relationship dynamics and social networks to volunteering and having a purpose, this audiobook guides the listener through things they’ve thought of and many things they haven’t. Thinking about a new puppy? Slow down, because that rambunctious little pup can have you running ragged. Go to the shelter. Rescue a dog. Or cat. Or Llama if you’d like, just make sure you know what you’re getting yourself into. And for that, this audiobook will go a long way of helping. Highly recommended. Oh-I almost forgot: the author includes a free download of a retirement activity book. It's a wonderful collection of original word puzzles, sodoku, find a word and other things to do when you're stuck inside. This alone is worth the price of the audiobook!

This audiobook helped shift my mindset from feeling stuck to feeling excited about what’s next. The ideas are approachable and grounded—nothing flashy or unrealistic, just thoughtful ways to build purpose, connection, and joy in retirement. I especially appreciated the suggestions for low-cost hobbies and ways to stay social without pressure. The narrator’s tone is calm and friendly, making it a genuinely pleasant listen. Whether you’re newly retired or just starting to think about that chapter, this is a great tool to reframe retirement as a beginning, not an end.

I am looking at retirement soon! I'm also looking forward to not waking up w/ the alarm clock every morning! This book came to me at the perfect time! I appreciate the author's thorough job of packing this book with helpful insights! Traveling on a budget caught my attention as did the part on becoming tech-savvy - lol I'm not tech-savvy now! But this book has an easy to follow feel and it's very engaging! I always love reading the real-life stories of others who have tackled this journey! Grab this book for yourself! There is also a fun PDF with puzzle games!

This is an informative and thought-provoking book on what to do when you retire. I like that it is separate from the many books on financial planning for retirement because it focuses on what to do with your time once you've actually retired! There are some great chapters, but my favorites are "budget-friendly fun" and "volunteering" because the author gives many options and examples. There is also a downloadable PDF activity book, which is fun to work on. The book gives you a framework for filling your time once you're no longer stuck in the 9-5 job world.

I picked this up for my parents. They’re only a few years away from retirement, and while they’re not big readers, I wanted something I could listen to first and then share with them—something that would get us talking about what’s next, without making it feel like a lecture. This book did exactly that.

The narration was easygoing and clear nothing too overproduced, just a calm, natural voice that made it easy to absorb the ideas without tuning out.

One part that really stuck with me was how it emphasized creating connection and purpose, even on a tight budget. It wasn’t about expensive hobbies or unrealistic routines it was grounded in what really matters: staying active, staying social, and finding joy in the everyday.

If you’ve got parents who are approaching retirement and could use a gentle, practical guide to help them think ahead, this book is a great place to start. It opened the door to some good conversations I don’t think we’d have had otherwise.
