About this listen
Drizzt joins Bruenor on his quest for the fabled dwarven kingdom of Gauntlgrym: ruins said to be rich with ancient treasure and arcane lore. But before they even get close, another drow and dwarf pair stumbles across it first: Jarlaxle and Athrogate. In their search for treasure and magic, Jarlaxle and Athrogate inadvertently set into motion a catastrophe that could spell disaster for the unsuspecting people of the city of Neverwinter - a catastrophe big enough to lure even the mercenary Jarlaxle into risking his own coin and skin to stop it.
Unfortunately, the more they uncover about the secret of Gauntlgrym, the more it looks like they can’t stop it on their own. They’ll need help, and from the last people they ever thought to fight alongside again: Drizzt and Bruenor.

The story unravels with Drizzt acting with compassion to his friends quests, rather than his own selfish goals. A true adventurer who is fun to follow and quirky role-model.
The last novel I listened to was the first book of 'Transitions' called The Orc King and I didn't complete the last two books of 'Transitions' before moving to the 'Neverwinter' series. I had no problems with this, as R.A Salvatore wrote the beginning of 'Gauntlgrym' with a recap on the general plots by weaving it into this story. I can genuinely say I felt the larger adventure without being confused.
Although I am a fan of Dungeons and Dragons, and high fantasy. I am sure if you wish to start listening to high fantasy audio books then Drizzt Do'Urdens adventures in the 'Neverwinter' series is a good a place to start than any other.
The land of Faerun is based in the Forgotten Realms, and Neverwinter in the most North Western part of Faerun. But it is only a small part of Faerun, so expect character in the Dungeons & Dragons novels to come together from far away places each with their own agenda. Expect strange beasts, cunning enemies and amazing magical weapons. On a larger scale, you can expect wars between different races, gods that try to control the fate of mortals, and ancient primordial beings awoken from long slumbers.
The great thing about the novels is that you can continue the adventures, make your own adventures, and your own characters if you wish by playing the Dungeons & Dragons game, and that game is continually supported with official events that might be organised in your local area.
For example, this Wednesday I will be joining friends to play in an official adventure based around the fictional city of Neverwinter, with their own characters who will be using the rules from the game of Dungeons & Dragons.
