Summary
In this brand-new Courtney Series novel by best-selling author Wilbur Smith comes an epic story of tragedy, loss, betrayal and courage that brings the listener deep into the seething heart of the French and Indian War.
1754. Inseparable since birth and growing up in India, Theo and Connie Courtney are torn apart by the tragic death of their parents.
Theo, wracked with guilt, seeks salvation in combat and conflict, joining the British in the war against the French and Indian army. Connie, believing herself abandoned by her brother, and abused and brutalised by a series of corrupt guardians, makes her way to France, where she is welcomed into high society. Here, she once again finds herself at the mercy of vicious men, whose appetite for war and glory lead her to the frontlines of the French battlefield in North America.
As the siblings find their destinies converging once more, they realise that the vengeance and redemption they both desperately seek could cost them their lives....

The story had me gripped from the beginning and the narrator is perfect for Wilbur Smith's books.

The young Courtneys on another adventure
The Courtneys start in India, one travelling to America, then gets adopted by Indians, becomes a trapper for the English, marries, and oh so much more. His sister goes from India to Paris, then travels to America and lo and behold finds her brother. Such a fantastic tale could never happen in real life, or could it……? Written by the master of imagination. Very different from the other Courtney books but it makes me want to read them again to see where this fits in.

Was a good but not like the African stories
I enjoyed it but I didn't finish with wanting it to carry on. That need for more because it's so gripping you can't stop is in the ballantyne and other courtney series books. Still it's Wilbur Smith, it's good and I am comparing to his very best. Narration was excellent

An enjoyable adventure
As always, I enjoyed Sean Barrets delivery of a Wilbur Smith adventure. I didn't find the plot as gripping as most of Smiths other books, the tell of this being that it took me alot longer to get through it than I had imagined it would.
It seemed as if a lot of story was ploughed into too few characters. Either way, classic Smith story telling that you can't got far wrong with.
