About this listen
When a strange woman shows up outside our camp in the Wastes with monsters chained up to her RV, it feels like I’m the only one who actually wants to help them.
That big, grey-skinned monster with the cage on his head and the chain hanging from his back—something is telling me I need to help him. I need to free him. But I have absolutely no idea how I’m supposed to do that, especially when he can’t even talk to me to tell me how.
Collector Mary is finally leaving our camp to head back to her monster menagerie, so I do the only thing I can think of to help him: I go with her.
Now, this big beastie and I are traveling companions for the foreseeable future. I just have to think of a way to get that cage off his head, which seems like an impossible task. But I’m not giving up. He has no one else, and when I start to discover who he is beneath the cage, my motivation to free him becomes far more than just a desire to help.
This is so dangerous. The military is lurking. Vicious monsters are lurking. And when Mary turns out to be even worse than we could have ever imagined, my desperate bid to save this monster turns into a deadly game of cat and mouse.
I’m pretty sure I’m going to die out here.
Gloam is book four of the Monstrous series, a post-apocalyptic m/m fantasy series that features monsters and human men falling in love. It is best to listen to the series in order. Contains mature content.

So easy to listen to
Michael Lesley strikes again with this audio adaptation of Gloam by Lily Mayne. I absolutely flew through this in print and was so excited to hear it brought to life in audio and it did not miss!
The story is great and the voice actor really did everything right to make it so much better to listen to. Can't wait for the next installment, Moth!

Gloam & Rig
Another great book in the series! I enjoyed the beginning where you get a decent amount of crossover from the previous book, The Ryke, seeing things from Rig's POV. I had read reviews of this book (written version) saying the internal struggles/fears Rig has are repetitive/boring, but I didnt feel that way. Rig is scared, that's his character, and he pushes through some awful things but his character doesn't suddenly change. it's one of the things I like most about the monstrous series. you see character development without a complete 180 on their personality.
As always, the universe development is amazing. The sex scenes are different enough to be monster sex yet still hot lol.
Michael lesley is one of my top 3 narrators and he smashed it out of the park again. I've yet to be disappointed by him.
Need the next audio soon please!

Michael Lesley is absolutely spectacular in these series
How on Earth so many accents throughout these series were created I will never know! And to execute to such perfection! Congratulations!
I fell in love with Gloam and Rig when I first read the book and I fell in love with them even more through Michael’s narration. It was such a pleasure to experience.
And of course, Lily Mayne is an incredible and beloved author. I love these series and to hear them in audio is an absolutely treat. Highly recommend.

Loved it!
At this point I'm starting to wonder if Lily Mayne is a witch of some description because for all 4 books in a series so far to be 5 star reads for me is unheard of! I loved this! It just gave everything I hoped it would.
Book 4 of the Monstrous series follows Rig (aka Adam. Human) and Gloam (Monster) who we met in the last book. Rig is a member of the raider camp and Gloam is one of the beasties chained to the RV that shows up in the last book owned by that creepy Mary woman who wanted Aury. Gloams head is covered in a cage he can just about see out of so we have no clue what he looks like, he also can't speak not that that stops Rig from communicating with him via a trusty notebook and pencil and deciding to tag along with Mary when she leaves so that he can figure out how to free the Monsters she has captured. I don't want to spoil anything so what I will say is there is more to Mary than meets the eye and Adam finds himself in a situation that I have a feeling could play heavily into future books somehow.
I adored Adam & Gloam, because Gloam Is unable to verbally communicate for a good chunk of the book I worried that would hinder how these two were going to come to mean more to each other but boy was I wrong, the scenes with them writing back and forth to each other were perfection and I actually loved that even without being able to talk they formed such a deep and caring bond with each other. Gloam is incredibly gentle & intelligent his kind lives for knowledge and all he wanted was to learn all about Earth so he could take that knowledge back home to his world, but he was betrayed in the worst way and enslaved by Mary who has him under some sort of mind control and has forced him to do awful things, hearing and seeing the pain and anguish Gloam goes through broke my heart.
This book was full of action, tension, betrayal, heartbreaking/heartwarming moments and the world building was great. Lily just adds layer upon layer through each book without it being too much, her characters all have incredible depth to them as do their interactions with others and the relationships they form with their monsters. The spice was on point, didn't disappoint at all especially those earlier scenes when Adam couldn't see Gloams face. I'm running out of ways to describe the performance Michael Lesley gives in these audiobooks... just incredible. 🌶🌶🌶🌶

Even better on audio!
When I first read this book last year I was so stressed the whole time! But I really enjoyed listening to it again on audio! Getting to hear Gloam’s voice is just so so amazing! At this point in the series all the plot threads are coming together and it’s super exciting getting to experience it all again on audio. Rig & Gloam are so underrated as a couple in the monstrous series but they are top tier for sure!
