Summary

The internationally beloved novel by dream literary collaborators and internationally bestselling writers, Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman. Soon to be a massive new TV launch on Amazon Prime Video and the BBC, a series written and show-run by Neil himself and starring David Tennant, Michael Sheen, Jon Hamm and Miranda Richardson, to name but a few.

There is a hint of Armageddon in the air. According to the Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch (recorded, thankfully, in 1655, before she blew up her entire village and all its inhabitants, who had gathered to watch her burn), the world will end on a Saturday. Next Saturday, in fact.

So the Armies of Good and Evil are massing, the four Bikers of the Apocalypse are revving up their mighty hogs and hitting the road, and the world's last two remaining witchfinders are getting ready to Fight the Good Fight. Atlantis is rising. Frogs are falling. Tempers are flaring, and everything appears to be going to Divine Plan.

Except that a somewhat fussy angel and a fast-living demon are not particularly looking forward to the coming Rapture. They've lived amongst Humanity for millennia, and have grown rather fond of the lifestyle. So if Crowley and Aziraphale are going to stop it from happening, they've got to find and kill the AntiChrist (which is a shame, really, as he's a nice kid). There's just one glitch: someone seems to have misplaced him.

Brilliant escapism.

I read this book many years ago and loved it. When I saw it on audible I couldn’t resist listening to it. It is brilliant. The whole story still resonates and feels fresh after nearly 30 years. It is beautifully narrated by a English voice that could change its tone, dialect and even the structure of the language used.
I don’t want to spoil the story for you, there are enough details on the book already but this is a beautiful book to listen to and escape to for several hours.
Take a chance - it’s worth it.

Excellent telling of an excellent tale

I had a vague memory of reading this a few years ago, but the narrator really brought it to life. The story is everything you'd want from two authors like Pratchett and Gaiman. Funny, well composed and set in a world that is both beautiful and ridiculous.

Loved every minute.

Loved it

I've read this book several times and seen the TV adaptation recently both of which I really enjoyed. Now I've enjoyed this audio book just as much.

I've not heard the Stephen Briggs reading of this, though I love his narration of other Terry Pratchett books. Coming to this fresh with no other audio version to compare it to, I found this to be really well read and made me laugh out-loud many times. I would happily listen to more books by this narrator.

The only thing I wish were different is the way the footnotes are read. These are throughout most of Terry Pratchett's books and the ones I've heard narrated by Stephen Briggs just carefully fold them into the main narration without anouncing them as footnotes. In this book Martin Jarvis anounces each one as 'Footnote: ...' before going back to the main story which I find distracting. This is only a tiny gripe though, not enough for me to reduce the stars I give it as I've loved listening to the book overall.

Excellent!

Voice acting was spot on. Story is fantastic. The narrator does an impressive job of enhabiting the characters and bringing them to life in his reading. And of course Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett are a stunning pair of authors

Great story ruined by bad narration.

One of my favourite Pratchet stories, ruined by Martin Jarvis' poor narration. Jarvis is usually good but this is awful.

One of the best books I've come across in the last 10 years. Genius. Entertaining and had me laughing out loud. I would definitely recommend it to everyone
