About this listen
Before the long nightmare ended, Darcy would often wish her mother had not opened that letter from an unknown woman. But, she did open it and shared it with her daughter, plunging both Darcy Campbell and Flora Tucker into a tale of an unsolved mystery, a web of secrets, and the discovery of an unsuspected traitor.
In tracking down clues about the disappearance of a young woman, Darcy and Flora leave their hometown of Levi, Oklahoma, and drive to Amarillo, Texas, then back again. Following leads that have long been covered, both women find more than one surprise including some discoveries about themselves.

Entertaining Mystery
This is a pretty entertaining mystery story which would have been more appealing if not for the soppy relationship that rekindles between Darcy and the Sheriff . I'm not much of a one for soppy but that may be a big draw for some.
Narration is perfect, loved every minute thanks to Michelle.

Pressure can build over fault lines.
Following the death of her husband, Darcy Campbell takes time out from her job as a reporter to recover, gently, back home with her mother, Flora, also widowed. A friend suggests she write a book about the local area, filled with anecdotes and the legends and myths of the Native American population. But when a letter arrives for Flora from the still anxious and grieving mother of a woman, missing without trace for two years, they decide to see if they could help if only by going to visit her. The two older women become friends whilst Darcy uses her investigative reporting skills and contacts to try to find out what had happened to the twice married and independently wealthy missing daughter.
This cozy mystery is as much about the people and locations as it is about solving what might, or might not, be a crime. The mother-daughter sleuthing team are well characterized with nice cameo portraits of the other protagonists. Told in the first person from Darcy's point of view, a picture is also painted of her home town in Oklahoma and the people living there, as well as of the ranch in Amarillo owned by the missing woman. Conversations are family familiar and the comfortable relationships feeling real. This is further enhanced by Michelle Babb's fine narration. Her warm, Texan accented voice is clear, well modulated, full of expression and follows the text immaculately, bringing it to life. Her character voicings, too, are distinct and individual. As always with this narrator, a fine performance.
An enjoyable book, second in the series, but losing nothing by not having read book one. I will probably look out for later Darcy and Flora mysteries, revisiting the duo as if returning to old friends. Recommended to all who enjoy their crime in a cozy package.

Great author
I miss the first narrator. It is always disconcerting not hearing the voice you have associated with the characters from the first book.

Very Enjoyable!
I enjoyed this listen. The story is rather slow paced but within the realm of reality. It unfolds nicely along the way but it shines in the last 2 hours of the listen. I enjoyed it, it's a nice easy listen.
Michelle did a great job on the narration, very clear, easy to listen to, and I really enjoyed this one! I'm looking forward to seeing where the story goes next!

A cute read
This was surprisingly good, with a slightly unexpected ending.
The narrator did a very good job for this book.
I had read the first in the series, listened to this second book and can't wait to see what the mother/daughter duo have in store for the next in the series.

Absolutely brilliant - both narration and story
I had listened to this out of order but it didn't really matter. It was a nice cozy mystery and great narration yet again.
Would fully recommend this series to anyone.
I was given a free copy by the narrator but this is no way influenced my decision.

Murder mystery
Perfectly narration for this murder mystery.
Just when you think you know who is involved in the murder it’s someone else and involves a relative you didn’t expect either.
Yes it’s slightly slow paced but well written and completely draws you in.

Nothing stays buried for ever
This is a nice cozy mystery with a past. The author paints a lovely picture with her words and it is easy to imagine the scene as they unfold. I am not sure the characters really solve the murder, It was more mother nature gave them a helping hand and then being in the right or wrong place at the right time. I still enjoyed it and will give the next book ago but not sure I missed much by starting with book two.
When receiving a letter Darcy had no idea that by opening it, it would put her life in danger and change it for ever. It was a plea for help, the sender's daughter has gone missing and no new leads to follow the police have all but given up hope of finding out what happened to her. Can Darcy and her mother do what the police can't and find closer for the woman? With an ex husband after land, a jealous cousin and a new husband in the picture they have there work cut out for them but it is only after an earthquake that they finally dig up the answers to the cold case.
Michelle Babb makes every story she tells exciting and entertaining and this is no exception.
I was given his free review copy audibook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
