About this listen

Predators watch. They’re patient. And strike when it’s least expected.

In broad daylight, on a quiet rural road, six-year-old Osian Howells disappears from his own front garden. In the blink of an eye he’s a missing person, taken, in the words of a headline hungry press, for nefarious purposes.

DCI Evan Warlow knows that the first hours after an abduction are crucial. Decisions have to be made quickly. Evidence can get lost or compromised, persons of interest need to be interrogated. And one or two have the team’s antennae twitching.

Worse, the abductor’s deviousness seems to know no bounds as cruel taunts pepper the investigation. With emotions at boiling point, and under pressure from family, the press and his superiors are all ‘gravely concerned’ for the boy’s welfare.

As always in such cases, the clock is ticking. Warlow and the team need answers and soon, before a kidnapping turns into something infinitely worse.

Gravely Concerned is the fifth book in the DCI Warlow bestselling series of fast-paced thrillers by Rhys Dylan. Set in the heart of wild Wales, this dark murder mystery full of action and pathos will keep you guessing. Perfect for fans of LJ Ross, JD Kirk. JM Dalgliesh and Simon McCleave, with an added dash of dark humour.

Excellent character detective series. Love the interwoven storyline with you guessing and unpicking the plot. Beautifully narrated with slivers of welsh dialogue.

character driven

I’ve listened to 5 in a row! I promise myself I’ll listen to another author in my library but I’m hooked!! I’m invested in the characters, intrigued by the plot and enjoy the mix of suspense and humour at times. The narrator is perfect too. Needless to say I’ll be ordering the next one.

Another great novel in this series

Really enjoyed this novel. Great characters and the narrator is great at voices albeit a little slow- I just adjust the speed.
Looking forward to the next instalment!

Another great story

I love this series. The stories are well thought out and written with warmth and humour, as much as the subject matter allows. I am always mentally gripped by the stories and emotionally invested in the characters. The humour, while sometimes black, makes me grin. I am always bereft when I finish these books and wait with illconsealed impatience for the next in this fantastic series. I send my gratitude and congratulations to both author and narrator for the outstanding entertainment. Very well done!

Absolutely brilliant! Intelligent storytelling and excellent narration.

All of the books in this series so far have been excellent, this one included. The characters are all so well written, with lots of fun banter amongst the police team.
The plot builds nicely, with plenty of clever red herrings to keep the Listener guessing.
Excellent writing and brilliant narration combined 👏👏👏

Such an excellent series!!

I loved it all!!! Great book which I finished far too quickly! Evan is a wonderfully likeable character as are all his team - it’s really pleasant not to have a nasty member in the team as is the norm in most police procedural novels, more realistic I suppose, but it does makes the listening experience very oo There’s great humour throughout and all delivered beautifully by the superb narrator!!

Everything!

I love everything about this series.
Story lines that keep you guessing, the amazing characters, the humour and how they are all so believable and well written.
Wales, the perfect setting and so beautifully described that you feel you are actually there. Finally the narration - absolutely perfect!
I can’t wait for the next in the series thank you Rhys Dylan.
