About this listen
Simon, Jane, and Barney, enlisted by their mysterious great-uncle, arrive in a small coastal town to help recover a priceless golden grail stolen by the forces of evil, the Dark. They are not at first aware of the strange powers of another boy brought to help, Will Stanton - nor of the sinister significance of the Greenwitch, an image of leaves and branches that for centuries has been cast into the sea for good luck in fishing and harvest.
Their search for the grail sets into motion a series of disturbing, sometimes dangerous events that, at their climax, bring forth a gift that, for a time at least, will keep the Dark from rising.

Another riveting tale

The narrator is good - his voice clear and understated in a way appropriate for Cooper's writing. My only issue was some awkward editing between chapters.
another wonderful book

What made the experience of listening to Greenwitch the most enjoyable?
The narration is excellent. It's written in a similar pace to the Narnia stories and my kids seem to enjoy these more than a lot of modern stories.Who was your favorite character and why?
My kids loved Barney, but they thought he was funnier in the first book.Which scene did you most enjoy?
The boys get invited into the artists caravan - kids thought it was scary but exciting too.Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
It was nice that Jane had a stronger role in this one.Any additional comments?
We couldn't find the second book in the series on audio book so we will have to buy the paperback. As soon as it was finished the kids asked me to get the Grey King so it looks like we will finish the series.A good family listen.

A book series from my childhood

Now, some 40 years later I have still loved it, and this audio version read by the wonderful Alex Jennings is just as enjoyable.
Alex is a great reader and brings the characters the settings and the story itself to life.
I’ve got to finish this review now.; I’m off to listen to part 3!
Still much loved

There are a couple of instances where the wrong word has been used but my main problem with this audiobook is that the chapter breaks are not in the right places. The reading has been arbitrarily split into six roughly equal ‘chapters’, which don’t correspond to the thirteen chapters of the book.
This means that setting the sleep timer to « end of chapter » means it finishes in the middle of a book chapter.
Great reading of a much loved story, but chapter breaks all wrong.
