Summary

Book five in the Gaunt's Ghosts series.

Gaunt's Ghosts make a daring drop assault on a vital world, but as tensions within the regiment reach boiling point, the enemy may not be the biggest threat....

Listen to It Because

The Ghosts are thrown into a new kind of war, sent into battle on grav-chutes to fight on platforms far above a toxic atmosphere. And the atmosphere in the regiment isn't much better as the feud between Mad Larkin and the really insane Lijah Cuu heats up...and turns deadly.

The story

Gaunt’s Ghosts embark on their most dangerous mission yet as they make a daring drop assault on the world of Phantine. With the elite enemy Blood Pact and vicious xenos mercenaries ranged against them and short of ammunition with no means of escape, things look grim for the Tanith First. But the greatest danger may come from within the regiment as an old grudge is settled and tragedy strikes.

Please complete the series with Toby Longworth!

This is my most re-listened to series on audible. The original material is brilliant and Toby's performances really bring everything together. Please keep them coming and please rerecord and complete the set with Toby as narrator!

awesome book ending too soon

This was a great story and i've finished it over one weekend. the usual praises of the series apply here; storywriting, narration. I only found the ending to come a bit sooner then I expected. 5/5

So nearly perfect.

Firstly let me say, the gun's of Tanith is one of the best of the early Gaunt's Ghosts novels, and I'm delighted it's come to audio so quickly. I have always felt that Toby Longworth is the perfect 40k narrator, and he seems to always really set the right tone for Abnett's characters. So it's a real shame that this time around I have a gripe with the narration and annoyingly it's something that could so easily have been avoided. Dan Abnett carries characters through his novels, so in the case of the Guns of Tanith the Phantine pilots Brea Jagdea and Oskar Viltry appear in the later unconnected (to Gaunt's Ghosts) novel Double Eagle, no problem there, and I really love the job Toby Longworth did with the Audio book of it, indeed I think it's possibly one of my favourites so far. Why then did Longworth not continue the voices the Phantine pilots had Double Eagle in the Guns of Tanith? It's so jarring to go from the clipped British accents that fitted so perfectly with the Battle of Britainesque Double Eagle to the cod American voices in Guns of Tanith. Sure listened to apart it's fine, but since Toby Longworth has narrated virtually all of Abnett's books, it would not have been much to take note of those voices and carry it through, it's a small gripe but it feels a really missed opportunity.

My small narration gripe aside, it's a great book, and it's up there with the best of the series so far, I can't wait for the next instalment of the Tanith First and Only.

Read these when they came out

I read these books when they first came out. The stories though familiar are like new. love these books. I also never thought I would have a favourite narrator but its Toby Longworth. he really brings these books to life. His Scottish accent isn't too bad either (speaking as a scotsman.
