Best group of books since Game of Thrones

Where does Hammered rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

At least in the top 10! But, bear in mind I've listened to all of Game of Thrones, all of which are amazing! This is the best group of books since them!! Its taken ages to find a good set of books to get addicted to since GOT and these are brilliant!

Hammered

Books get better and better as characters evolve. So as you listen/ or read you feel apart of the film

loved the story line. got a bit lost with the characters of the 6 heroes. unhappy that gunar dies but hope that leaf survives. aabsolutely. love the narrator' s humour. will listen eagerly to next volume.

Strap in

If you enjoyed the first 2 books, strap in. This one is more intense. Feels like the author has really gotten into his swing. Nerdy references, giant a squirrel, fights with gods, whats not to love.

Easy-on-the-ear fantasy

I'm training for an ultra-hike (100KM) so I needed something that was (a) easy to listen too as I'm map reading at the same time and (b) exciting enough to fill in the time when there isn't any decent scenery to look at. This fits the bill. There are some excellent action sequences, the plot isn't too complicated and there are some genuinely funny jokes (very important in 4hrs of walking).

The one thing I would say is that Christopher Ragland's range of female voices is not great. I think that Granuaile sounds a bit like a simpering idiot (and she's meant to be hot, intelligent and spirited, go figure), so I've taken a star off performance. That's my opinion though and it's certainly not enough to put me off. I'm buying the next one.

Easy listening

What made the experience of listening to Hammered the most enjoyable?

I have enjoyed these books, they are quite lighthearted fun capers probably aimed at young adults but still quite fun to break up more heavy book digestion.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

The way old gods and legends are woven together. could do without the bloody dog! are at least make him sound less like a 'ickle baby'

Which character – as performed by Christopher Ragland – was your favourite?

most were good....................accept for the dog!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

easy to dip in and out of.

An Epic Adventure With This Modern Day Druid

I'm becoming a big fan of Kevin Hearne’s stories. I love his writing style, finding it: intelligent, well researched but easy to read. His stories are full of threads but never leave me feeling confused and keep me hooked.There was nothing about this book that I didn't enjoy.

I once again downloaded the narration to listen to the story while reading; Christopher Ragland's performance was amazing and transported me into this adventure. The pace at which he read the story and the emotion he added to the different scenes was inspired. Although his female voices aren't quite as believable as his male ones, I love the accents he crafted for each character - his performance bringing each one to life.

While I'm talking about the characters, I must say how much I love them all in this series. They are complex beings created with their own tales and histories, making them all feel so real and believable: it's why I became so invested in this band of beings looking for justice and revenge - I cried, laughed and raged with them. But I must say, Oberon, Atticus’ faithful Irish Wolfhound is the BEST, he just lights up my heart in every scene he's in.

I think that the story unfolded at a good pace, never giving us any more information than Atticus had, which meant that we journeyed with him, never really knowing when or where the next attack would strike. I loved the action-packed pace of this book, spending most of my time on the edge of my seat. 

Although this is the third book in the Iron Druid Chronicles, Kevin Hearne does a good job of weaving in any pertinent information for new readers (or us rather forgetful older readers) into this story without any detrimental effects PLUS there is no perilous life-or-death cliffhanger at the end (woop!woop!) so it could be read as a standalone title, however, I have become emotionally invested and I can’t wait to see what trials and adventures Atticus O’Sullivan and Oberon have to face next!
