This story was OK but not gripping. I found it distracting that English characters in Hampshire kept using American terms. Fall instead of autumn, tracks instead of footpaths, cell phones instead of mobiles.

OK story but Americanisms were distracting

It’s a shame, the story and characters are good, but the main character is supposed to be English, unfortunately the author hasn’t bothered to write her speech in English, so she uses many terms which are wrong and grate to an English ear.
American English is a different language to British English . We have footpaths not trails, we don’t refer to ‘blocks’ on a street, we have mobile phones not cellphones, our major roads are motorways not highways.
To have one of her English speakers calling Autumn, Fall and some random phrase about blaming weather on Canada and Portugal is just unacceptable. Pure lazy writing.

These frequent errors ruined the experience for me and just left me feeling that the author hasn’t written the book for the non-American audience.

Americanisms!

It was a nice murder mystery story but the reason I have purchased my next book in the series is the concept. I wish I had thought of setting up a company, taking small parties of avid mystery readers to visit the locations, where the crimes were committed and having a mystery reenactment evening. Sounds like great fun to me and getting paid for it too. Forget the murder or the crime, just to be along for the ride and the mystery dressing up evening, is enough for me, I would buy the book for that.

What a great idea

I really enjoyed this book. As the first in a series much of it is setting the scenario and establishing characters, yet it never drags. The characters are believable and the setting recognisable. What made it outstanding for me was the narrator. I look forward to more.

The narration

Good solid story, not annoying. Nice details about Agatha Christie's life and dog training amd legal issues. Main character's approach to romance was not irritating, which is all I ask for these days.

Interesting, relatable main characters

I enjoyed the descriptions of the countryside. the Americanisms were a bit peculiar but you have to suspend disbelief don't you. listen out for the narrator's peculiar pronunciation of Harrogate, which is mentioned about 50 times in the book so it does get a bit grating. otherwise gentle and a good bedtime read.

an enjoyable light cosy mystery

enjoyed story and narration, one too many American words instead of English words which were irritating but otherwise a good listen

very enjoyable and good plot

I really enjoyed this story; however a little piece of me dies inside every time a character purporting to be English uses Americanisms -trash, sidewalk, yard, leash etc. I am sure the author is aware of what these are called in the UK and I'm sure that the average American could hazard a guess!!! Other than that I enjoyed the characters, the scenery and the plot and unlike many novels of this genre there weren't challenges to credulity!

Lovely Cosy Mystery

A lovely cozy, soothing read. Beautifully narrated. Shall definitely check out the rest of the books in the series.

Story is fine, nothing brilliant but fine to listen to when doing other things. Some Americanisms are a bit odd, trash, dog licence required in England - they're not. Perhaps I'm just too pedantic!
