Britain is more unequal than ever before. If we're ever going to fix this, we must take the power out of Westminster.

Looking North could change this, and the Mayors of Greater Manchester and the Liverpool City Region, Andy Burnham and Steve Rotheram are leading this fight. For the first time, they share their experiences of modern British politics, from how the Hillsborough disaster shaped them and their time as MPs in Westminster witnessing its systematic flaws, to leaving to become Mayors up North, battling Boris Johnson during the Covid-19 pandemic, and creating a new vision for what Britain could be.

In Head North, they propose an ambitious ten-point plan to rewire and reimagine our country beyond the Westminster bubble. A timely discussion around Northern voices and culture, devolution and the failed promises of 'levelling up' from successive Tory Prime Ministers, Head North outlines how we can spread political and economic power throughout the UK and push forward for a fairer future.

The North will not sit on the sidelines any longer. It's time for real change - and this is how we can achieve it!

A timely vision for the transformational, values-based politics which could benefit all regions and nations of the UK.

A clear, authentic and passionate exposition of the why and how of “rewiring” our archaic and unequal political systems.

Restored my hope for Labour

after a difficult few years in the pandemic where I became disillusioned and overwhelmed with politics and despair, hearing this vision of the future has me inspired again. I used to be a labour member but I was on the fence about my vote in any upcoming GE - this book has been a significant factor in making me think labour might be the way forwards. I'm from Norfolk so not northern but the spirit of the book is lovely to hear; positive, enthusiastic, kind. Three things missing from Westminster. Loved this book so much I've ordered the print copy for my brother (a student at uni in Leeds).

An inspiring and hopeful read

Didn't expect a book on politics to make me cry, but it did, twice. I'm northern, working class and worked for 5 years in the Westminster bubble, this book resonated like no other, and should be compulsory reading for all policy makers.

Honest, thought provoking, inspiring book

I loved listening to this book - it made me angry, sad, inspired and also made me think about what could be possible. Brilliant book

A heartfelt letter to the people of the North West

A good listen to better understand the history and current socio-economics of the North West in particular. Lays out options for how to do things differently and why. Touching nod to the future generation for what can be and what they deserve.

Thought provoking and at times emotional

Integrity, honesty and passion flow through every chapter. Very powerful messages expressed in down to earth dialogue. Particularly loved hearing the authors narrate their own words.
