About this listen

Heaven's Gate was a video game Alfred didn't intentionally join.

In fact, it wasn't technically a video game.

Alfred had somehow ended up on a planet millions of miles away from Earth, but with dungeons, hot girls, and strange creatures appearing at every turn. Just like a video game he could complete missions for experience, and even join a guild and play with friends. It almost seemed like a normal world until he discovered that in the planet, Heaven's Gate, your dreams could come true if you were brave enough to enter into the hardest dungeons.

He runs into some friends and foes in the game, and tries his hardest to conquer the legendary dream dungeons where all your dreams can come true if you can just survive. If you wish to revive someone, or learn a few "broken" skills, you can do it at the apex of Heaven's Gate.

Luckily, he's been training in martial arts since he was a kid, and seems to have a natural advantage in the game thanks to his martial prowess and sharp mind.

LitRPG is my favourite genre. Despite this, I couldn't finish this book. It was just too shallow. The main character had no fear for his life despite the first quest he took warning him it was too hard for him, and if he died, he would be thrown in with a load of dead bodies - assuming meaning that he would be perma dead? He was like nah its ok, back on earth I was the number 1 fighter in the world. There was no real thought, just acceptance of everything. Unnecessary highlighting of his friends boobs on their first meeting in this game world. Didn't bring anything to the story at all. Overly simplistic and juvenile.

Around 11 minute 41 sec, mark the narrator repeats himself "and hundreds of men in black suits turned as Alfred chased after the little red head. And hundreds of men in black suits turned as Alfred chased after the little red head". Surely an error?

The narrator did well despite the mistake above and the lack of depth in the book. He gave the characters their own voice which helped with identifying who was speaking at the time.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Very Shallow
