High School is the revelatory and unique coming-of-age story of Sara and Tegan Quin, identical twins from Calgary, Alberta, growing up in the height of grunge and rave culture in the '90s, well before they became the celebrated musicians and global LGBTQ icons we know today.
While grappling with their identity and sexuality, often alone, they also faced academic meltdown, their parents' divorce and the looming pressure of what might come after high school. Written in alternating chapters from both Tegan's point of view and Sara's, the book is a raw account of the drugs, alcohol, love, music and friendship they explored in their formative years.
A transcendent story of first loves and first songs, it captures the tangle of discordant and parallel memories of two sisters who grew up in distinct ways even as they lived just down the hall from one another. This is the origin story of Tegan and Sara.

Exceptionally told, it’s like I was there!
Damn, I want to go listen to it all over again! Listening to the beautifully narrated details of the Quinn sisters life I felt like I was one of their friends and family. I throughly enjoyed the original songs between chapters, a very personal touch while hearing how they grew as young artists.
I saw so much of myself in the words and found myself commenting & laughing to the stories like I was in the room with them. Heck they should write fiction! Amazing!!! Thank you Tegan and Sara!
Only thing is I would have loved to have heard about Tegan’s coming out and how her and Alex broke up. But that is for another day!

Not a super fan, but a fan nonetheless!
This is an excellent biography. Despite the audiobook being initially unavailable in Europe, once it was, I knew it was a title I wanted to listen to - especially when it is T&S narrating it themselves. Fast becoming institutes of Canadian Culture, Tegan & Sara's story of growing up in Calgary, dropping acid and raving, while questioning and exploring their own sexual identities and the relationship between themselves, peppered with their old demo tapes is an engaging and fast listen.

Well worth a read!
Really enjoyed Highschool. The narrative was so detailed and immersive that I was sad when it reached its conclusion. Very raw and real. Even having different experiences personally, there was so much that I could relate to. Definitely recommend this book to everyone.

Open and honest
Interesting hearing their lives as teens in a time where homophobia was rife - emotional for listeners who can relate but also inspiring as to how they got from A to Z.
Loved the clips of their recordings from demos and that it was narrated by both of them.
Will listen again in the future I have no doubt!

Hey, I’m Just Like You...
Narrated eloquently by Tegan and Sara, many will find areas of resonance and relatability in the recounting of high school life for the Quin twins. Regardless of how you identify, there is so much to unpack in those angst filled teenage years when you feel like nobody ever really understands you so it is great to listen as they both take us through growing up in that time period with anecdotes of developing musicianship which turned them into the beloved stars they are today.

Added bonus of hearing their first recordings.
Well worth listening to because you hear the emotion in their words. But even better is to hear the actually original tracks in all their rawness. Especially when heard in context of what was going on in their lives at the time. For me their latest recordings and live performances are a little too polished. I really enjoyed hearing the truth in not just their words but also how they sang them back in the day.

A touching and honest coming of age story...
I loved every second of this audiobook - and as soon as it was over I wanted to listen again!
Tegan and Sara's memoir is a touching, honest, funny and sometimes heartbreaking account of growing up a queer teen in the 90s. A must listen for all - LGBTQ+ and queer allies alike. It's great to hear the early recordings between chapters - and so interesting to compare to the newer versions of the songs on the Hey I'm Just Like You album. Buy both, you won't regret a second of either!

Honest and Emotional
This was my very first audio book. What a wonderful book to start with. I loved the fact that there were alternate chapters read by Tegan and Sara. I loved the excerpts of original songs between chapters too. Their writing styles are wonderfully honest and truthful. This a book that should be read by any young person struggling with their identity. Thank you Tegan and Sara. Much love and many thanks.

The best audiobook I've listened to!
What an interesting and delightful book!
First of all, I highly recommend choosing the audiobook instead of a physical copy. Both Tegan and Sara read their parts of the memoir with some of their old recordings sprinkled in between chapters. The recordings where so sweet and heartwarming!
The story itself is very interesting as my own teenage years were quite prim, proper and sheltered compared to Tegan and Sara's a decade before. It reads as a perfect coming-of-age novel with an engaging plot and distinct characters, which makes the fact that it's a memoir even more incredible.
I thoroughly enjoyed this and will definitely be recommending it to everyone who's willing to listen to me!
