Summary

NFL football player Isaiah Blackwell lost his husband three years ago and is raising their teen son alone. He lives his life as quietly as his job allows, playing ball to support his family but trying not to draw unwanted attention. His quiet life is shaken up when a mutual friend introduces him to Victor, a visiting principal ballet dancer who is everything Isaiah is not.

Brash and loud, Victor Aleksandrov has applied for political asylum to avoid returning to Russia, where gay men are targeted and persecuted. He's been outspoken about gay rights in his home country, and if he doesn't get asylum, going back to Russia is a death sentence.

Their one-night stand turns into a tentative friendship, a relationship they both agree is temporary . . . until Victor's denied asylum. Isaiah can't offer Victor a happily ever after, but he can propose something that'll keep Victor in the US and safe . . . marriage. He just doesn't expect his new husband to dance away with his heart.

Contains mature themes.

OK story but horrible narrator!!

Seriously the worst narrator when it came to accents!! It was very difficult to not cringe and become distracted when he did accents. That ruined the story a bit for me. Had it been another narrator, it would most likely have gotten more stars.

Enjoyable

Okay so the narrator isn't the best, but in his defence, he had to do a British, American and a Russian accent, and finding anybody who was good at that would have been hard. But this book has all the tropes I love - loved and lost, single dad, marriage of convenience, wholesome values but with some spice. Listened to the whole thing with a smile. It's basically a hallmark movie for the ears and sometimes you just need that. Enjoy!

Good book

I enjoyed the book. The story was unique and interesting. The way everything played out was realistic though I thought Isaiah was self-centred and hurtful at times. I never warmed up to him. Victor was nice and unapologetic for being himself. Although Isaiah was gay he didn't like Victor's refusal to fly under the radar of the media and general public. Isaiah also didn't like what he thought was Victor's influence over his biracial and bisexual son. Narration was decent. At first I wasn't sure about the narrator but once I got into the story he was fine. Overall, a very good book that touched on important issues.
